Surveys and interviews of new believers, mature believers and leaders revealed that growing churches, randomly chosen, have members who invite widely and, particularly, those whom the Spirit is drawing. Visitors are struck by the welcome, the fellowship, the worship, and a sense of connecting with God. The project involves working with curriculum action research embedded within one-day ministry discernment events for laity. Measurement tools include a spiritual gift inventory, repeated measures Likert questionnaires, a short-term photovoice exercise, and semi-structured interviews. Seventeen members/explorers attended the day-long retreat 'Eternal compositions: spiritual autobiography and the women of the grail' and engaged in creative modalities recounting the stories of the grail. By utilizing research and statistics, the writer sought to determine what the African American houses of worship are doing or not doing and what is needed going forward to help eradicate HIV/AIDS. What the writer discovered as a result of research, interviews, and workshops was that some of the clergy in the city and across the state of New Jersey were willing to start an HIV/AIDS ministry in their churches. The writer also documented the fact that there were those among the clergy willing to have someone come to their church once a quarter to speak on HIV/AIDS. Others were willing to put HIV/AIDS facts in their Sunday morning bulletins... Other pastors committed to providing pastoral care and counseling to those who were infected and affected.
