The research sought to assess the effectiveness of a short sunday school lesson series in making members more open to cross-cultural interaction. The paper considers the functions of Christian liturgy and the history of Christian attitudes toward science, then describes the development of a liturgy including the Lord's Supper, and its test use within seven congregations of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Smithfield Baptist Church located in Gloucester, Virginia served as the context for this project. The researcher hypothesized that the freedom of worship and the availability of relevant ministry opportunities would provoke an attitudinal change in the current parishioner, as well as increase church participation and growth. A mixed methodological approach was used to measure the project's effectiveness including focus groups, pre and post survey questionnaires, workshop questionnaires, and workshop evaluations. This study began with a survey of biblical and professional literature that examined the divine paradigm for marriage, the stressors associated with ministry, and critical steps couples took to create a more amicable, enduring relationship. Next, the project gleaned information from a survey distributed to couples who have been married for at least thirty years and have served in the pastorate. The project director compiled, synthesized, and reported the results. The conclusions drawn affirm that God's marital construct can and will endure the stressors of ministry when couples apply biblical principles. This report is intended to bring encouragement to pastoral couples who are fighting the good fight. The thesis was, God impacts and transforms Samaritan volunteers through face to face encounters with the migrant, 'Jesus.' The research included interviewing eight participants who gave 'testimonios' that documented evidence of transformation. The evidence parallels Mark's Gospel where Jesus called people to follow his 'Way' that ultimately transformed all areas of a person's life. It examined the human phenomenon of grief and loss and emphasized the intentionality of the funeral sermon and pastoral care to deal with the phenomenon of the death of a loved one. Areas of special consideration include the place of rhetorical principles in preaching, and the use of traditional evangelical invitations at the end of sermons. The study examines Christ's place in preaching persuasively, and the need for preparation for listening to sermons on the part of the laity.
