The communities of Alabaster have experienced significant growth in population over the past ten years. The project manager identified a need for his church to determine the best strategies for reaching residents who are not Christians and are not involved in a local church. Demographic studies and feedback from local residents were utilized to determine the impact of this project on the community. A qualitative research methodology was utilized to field-test an integrated approach to prayer and planning in three different settings. This listener study surveyed 651 Catholic high school students to determine what makes for effective connection with them. Focus groups, clergy interviews, observational research, and literature review further developed that knowledge. Statistical analysis upended certain widely held assumptions. Regular Mass attendees rated the person of their preacher highly. Even people who claim the Christian faith struggle with building healthy, happy, wholesome marriages that will endure for a lifetime. This deterioration of marriage tears at the fabric of the nuclear family, which also affects the health of the church family. In an attempt to curb the weakening marriages in my ministry setting, I proposed to lead a marriage retreat which focused on marriage as covenant, and which equipped couples with communication skills and conflict resolution techniques. My premise was that people can find hope for their marriages when they embrace God's ideal, which means living together in a covenant relationship and equipping themselves with proper relational tools. We examined how covenant theology and the theology of communication can inform our marriages. After interviewing teenagers and itinerant communicators, the project director identified three preaching techniques that communicators can use to develop rapport with unacquainted teenage audiences. The equipping program model included a training seminar that equipped a select group of members in responsible evangelism and subsequent discipling relationships for the purpose of spiritual maturation. The project included the creation of a curriculum that functioned as a training tool to equip members in disciple-making. The seminar consisted of six sessions conducted over three days within a retreat setting.
