The author facilitated three six-week support groups in three different congregations, working with family members -- whether child, parent, spouse, or sibling -- who love someone with mental illness. The outcome of the group that went the entire six weeks supported the literature that peer-run support groups are an effective means of intervention. It also provided an avenue for people to discuss their own death and to begin the process of pre-planning their funerals as a way to celebrate their life story and take some of the burden off their family. Using traditional research methods and observations made from his ministry experience, the author created a workshop for members of his congregation. With so many insisting that one cannot be gay and Christian, we construct a dividing line between what happens on a Saturday night and who we are in a Church on Sunday morning. I do not believe that this is an issue with which only LGBTQ persons struggle. I believe that most Christians struggle to reconcile the messiness of everyday life and their self-representation in Church. Much of this compartmentalization centers around the tension between what is sacred and what is secular. The key concept was a good beginning - how a new pastor might make an intentionally good beginning.  In order to define a good beginning the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions were examined, and LCMS district presidents were interviewed. They gave their definitions and suggested names of pastors who had started well.  Those pastors were then interviewed to add their insights. The existing resources were also examined. Some people who receive healing for emotional hurts through inner healing prayer relapse into past wounding behaviors. The effort relapse is first on the one who relapses. The second effect is on the healing community, especially the people in healing ministry who pray with them.
