This project examined two coaching tools, Gallup StrengthsFinder and World Harvest Mission Gospel-Centered Life, to determine if using them in combination improved team effectiveness to a greater degree than using either tool alone.  Seventeen participants on two core leadership teams from church plants in urban Philadelphia were trained with both tools.  The qualitative research was conducted by self-evaluation surveys that gathered  information before and after each phase of training. The focus was on the heart of the believer because I am convinced that leadership development and committed participation are intimately linked with proper, effective spiritual formation. To prepare for the project, I researched appropriate literature, and established a core group of believers who were willing to participate. Twenty-two believers initially participated in the first workshop, and most continued through the seven-week project. The five-week program was taught to over twenty leaders using prescribed materials. Pre- and post-program questionnaires were administered to assess spiritual health. The questionnaires measured the participant's awareness of the Holy Spirit's presence, time given to spiritual development, value attributed to congregational worship, involvement in lay-supported ministry, and the value they attributed to Christian fellowship. Responses showed some improvement in each of these areas. Believing that hope is rooted in an experiential encounter with God, this thesis first examines inaugural eschatology with its multi-dimensional view of the resurrection, i.e. the past event, the future promise, and the present reality, and contrasts it with dispensational eschatology. As a means to foster experiential encounters with God, this project used the celebrative narrative preaching design of Henry Mitchell and Frank Thomas. The design was contextualized for a primarily Anglo Baptist congregation in southern Oregon. A four-page questionnaire consisted of 1) demographics, age, gender and church membership; 2) discovery, where members gave information as to why they were not a part of the credit union; and 3) the evaluation of the study: the participants expressed themselves as to whether or not the study was 'helpful.' The major findings  are that the members of the church were more reluctant to change due to the fact that they were more comfortable with their financial institution. The project director identified hermeneutical principles of preaching from narrative passages. The project director examined homiletical works and discovered common approaches to preaching narrative passages. The director developed and preached the sermons at First Baptist Church of Lyman in Gulfport, Mississippi. An expert evaluated the sermon manuscripts. The director recorded the sermon delivery on DVD.
