This thesis research project explained how these organizations could address this problem by embracing intercultural partnerships. Understanding kingdom culture is the key to becoming intercultural. Kingdom culture is rooted in the character of the creator. Using grounded theory, a clear pathway for implementing intercultural partnerships was discovered. The research explored God's willingness to dialogue, His provision for a wonderful counselor and Adam and Eve's hiding from God. A review of relevant literature relating to resistance revealed gender, social stigma, self-disclosure, problem analysis, and the identity of the help source as factors related to resistance levels. A survey of 221 individuals from one church identified that reasons for resistance were consistent with findings of the literature review. The problem addressed the tendency of people to observe rather than to participate in ministry due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts. It developed an equipping ministry launch that consisted of a twelve-week study of spiritual gifts using a preaching series, Sunday school lessons and small-group studies. The launch helped attendees gain knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts and of their use in ministry. Also, a series of four evangelistic sermons was preached during the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship. A pre-test and post-test were administered. This project is qualitative in nature; case study research was the primary methodology employed. A biblical theology of inter-cultural community was defined focusing on spirituality, hospitality, and missionality. Ethnographic tools were utilized to determine the emic perspective of the multi-cultural setting of Bethel Christian Fellowship. Characteristics of inter-cultural leaders in a multi-cultural setting were discovered. Transformational dynamics needed to shift a local church to an inter-cultural mindset were described. Members of the congregations were surveyed following six sermons on Romans 12 and five sermons on Old Testament heroes. Additionally, participants attended a two-day retreat and completed pre- and post- surveys. The results of the survey confirmed that daily worship should be a prerequisite to church leadership. Spiritual practices that re-orient people within the larger missio dei were investigated in a nine-month research study which utilized a mixed method approach of phenomenological and empirical methodologies. The research identified transformational practices that later came to be defined as the spiritual discipline of Intentional Missional Engagement. Jackson, or prophetic, as was that of Dr. Martain Luther King, Jr. The creation of an effective church in its fullness is, of course, a long-term assessment. The conclusion of this project leads to the development of two primary initiatives to recruit future retirees to consider missions.
