The families were cared for with support and compassion, decreasing their levels of anxiety and allowing the healthcare team uninterrupted opportunities to assess and treat the patients. Qualitative research was employed to test the model's effectiveness, by means of pre- and posttest, questionnaires, and interviews. The project's objective was to present a model for the church to lead efforts to reduce health disparities in underserved communities through collaborations with government and private organizations. Qualitative research was conducted to assess needs and measure project effectiveness, using surveys and interviews. This effort increased health education, outreach, awareness, and identified support resources within the community. Given partnerships between churches and communities seldom exist; Ivanhoe implemented a teaching/learning context in partnership with other institutions to equip youth to deal with social, economic and spiritual challenges threatening their well-being and productivity. A qualitative approach using participatory observation, surveys, journaling, and spiritual formation lessons and activities was utilized. The hypothesis states that spiritually empowered youth internalize God's love and develop spiritual discipline and self-control needed to transcend and transform racial, social, and economic constraints. Quantitative and qualitative research were used by sending questionnaires to all 409 women married to clergy in the West Virginia Annual Conference and talking to those who feel called. The research showed that women married to clergy are not struggling with the call into pastoral ministry more than others not married to clergy are. The project focused on the identification, adaptation, utilization and analysis of common spiritual direction methods to facilitate healing and restoration in the life of urban African American women of varying ages and backgrounds who had experienced a crisis that impacted their spirituality. Using a qualitative case study methodology, the participants attended a 13-week program that utilized a variety of spiritual direction methods and learning tools. The project helped the participants re-shape their theology, re-interpret scripture, and re-image God. Healing was initiated through release of shame, forgiveness, empowerment, and reawakened spirituality.
