While pastors try their best to arouse interest in their hearers, their training has not prepared them to be interesting.  Seminary has laid a foundation of how to be accurate to a text, clear to one main point, relevant to people's needs, but as predictable as the want ads.  They have been trained one way to preach.  As a result, their sermons are predictable.  Each sermon looks alike in sermon design and in sermon delivery. The author is an ordained minister in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC).  Historically, the IPHC has been hostile to differing views from the one they currently hold, the 'classical' Pentecostal interpretation.  However, there is currently a movement within the IPHC to be more appreciative of other evangelical, non-Pentecostal interpretations.  The author used evangelical resources to develop a seminar to increase Pentecostals' understanding of evangelical, non-Pentecostal perspectives on the doctrine of baptism in the Holy Spirit, with emphasis on the issues of subsequence and initial physical evidence.  The seminar brought the evangelical perspectives into dialogue with the 'classical' Pentecostal interpretation. The seminar was presented at Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia, an IPHC college.  The seminar participants were students from the School of Christian Ministries.  Pre-test and post-test survey questionnaires were given prior to and immediately after the seminar. It reports the method most frequently associated with John Carver, and considers also secondary literature regarding boards of directors and leadership functions in the church. While there are many suitable forms of governance and leadership structure, the author looks favorably upon the policy based governance method and reports how the method came to be recommended for the congregation he serves as pastor. The governance model is dependent upon a clear distinction between ends and means. Board level leadership is to be primarily concerned with ends. The pastor, as staff leader, is primarily concerned with means toward ends accomplishment. The method of study was qualitative, using a small group structure of four pastors in the United Methodist tradition.  It applied the use of interview, journal, and questionnaire.  The results showed a marked improvement in the perceived awareness of one's felt presence with God. An initial deacon's retreat provided an opportunity for the deacons to renew their spiritual life and knowledge of the office of deacon. Following research and consultation with an expert in the academic realm, the project director developed and led four teaching sessions. Using randomly sent surveys to pastors, I sought to elicit their experience of a discernment process.  The survey results showed that 60% did not receive any help in discerning God's calling to pastoral leadership. The method used to determine the impact of servant leadership was a questionnaire designed to assess attitudinal changes after people had participated in servant related activities.  The results of the survey showed substantial positive impact on the participants' cognitive, affective, relational, and spiritual attitudes. The results indicated that there was such a relationship.  In other words, more spiritual maturity meant a more positive coping with the challenges of aging.  Spiritual maturity was determined by measuring a set of spiritual attitudes and spiritual practices.
