Art was used to discuss theological themes. The results produced a motivation for ministry beyond current levels.  Leaders developed and long-range plans were made for artistic expression in church program and community outreach. Individuals were invited to participate in a study that dispelled strongly held feelings of distrust. Process for planned change was used to foster inclusion. Bible study sessions encouraged a reflection on God, a joint worship service was culturally inclusive, and an economic forum increased knowledge of financial empowerment. Five churches were chosen, pastors of these churches became a part of a study group, mentors were assigned to each church, mentors became a part of a district vitalization team. Yet because transmission of HIV/AIDS often involves forms of sexual contact and/or substance use which are condemned in most Christian communities, and because many persons living with HIV/AIDS have had deeply painful experiences with Christians, prejudice, fear, and pain create a gap between Christians and persons living with HIV/AIDS.  AIDS education within church communities needs to bridge this gap.  This project is a ministry tool in which Christian communities interact with a body of artistic work in order to shift misunderstanding, prejudice, and fear concerning persons living with HIV/AIDS.  The project shows that art can be used to bring about understanding, transformation, and dialogue. Participants completed a full one-day retreat which included lectures, participative exercises, spiritual disciplines such as formational prayer, and Lectio Divina. Pre and post tests were given to measure the results. The results of the data revealed increased movement in the participants' self-esteem. Further positive measurement evidenced a desire for Christian fellowship and a deeper relationship with God. He examined biblical texts and early church writings to illustrate hospitality as an experience of grace. Because of his Katrina experience, both people and pastor re-learned that hospitality was a necessary practice in the faith community.
