To empower Christian educators, they participated in ten training sessions learning biblical, theological, and historical information, as well as teaching strategies and learning styles. Christian education is the vehicle used to assist in the faith formation of students as they move towards social action. Methodology used for qualitative data collection included a pre-survey, need assessment, and post-survey. The project director wrote a 40 Days of Mission Small Group Handbook and six sermons designed to develop a passion for personal, local and global mission. Effectiveness was measured using evaluations of the sermon hearers, the small group participants, and the leaders of Grace. Through personal study, conversations with people in the church, and biblical material, I have attempted to understand the characteristics of the postmodern seeker. The homiletical response to the seeker will focus upon the biblical story that God is the most important seeker. Yet, American-born Presbyterians often act as if this were not true. When faced with a decision in the church, they turn to procedure and polity for direction rather than to God. The story told in this report is one of an American-born Presbyterian praying with the Apostle Paul about an invitation to leadership of the church development ministry team. IPR is effective for interpersonal skills training among clergy and seminary students. Can it be used to improve communication skills (articulating, listening, self-disclosure, openness, and conflict resolution) of parishioners in a United States Air Force (USAF) chapel? From the preaching of eight sermons in a medium-sized RCA church in central New Jersey, the project identified elements that help people to learn Bible passages heretofore unknown to them, including a sermon style matching the genre of the text, re-contextualization, functional equivalence, and the passion of the preacher. This study uses qualitative methods through use of questionnaire to find out what factors relate to numerical growth in congregational membership. The study combines responses from survey of congregational worshippers and leaders from a random sample of 110 members of Bethlehem Reformed Church of God. Results point to: Narrow view of ministry and mission; centralized hierarchical clergy and; their inability to enhance practical help for particularly needy youth members, and children as factors in ensuring and promoting growth.
