The intial receptiveness of Grace church leaders was assessed after a PowerPoint presentation via questionaire. Factors are documented that led churches to enter into partnerships. This project focuses on current patterns, priorities, topics and resources for new member education within the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta. A survey was sent to all congregations within this diverse Presbytery. Responses show that a majority of congregations offer new member education, with a high percentage of participation. Introduction to the Reformed, Presbyterian tradition is one of three equal priorities. The concept of spiritual deep listening is viewed through the framework of the church history, family ties and in acts of worship through song, prayer, the preached word, as wellas acts of outreach. The concept of the beloved community expressed by Dr. Martin Luther King provides the theoretical framework for viewing the hteology of community expressed at Calvary United Methodist Church as the members struggle to listen to one another, the neighborhood, and the larger community. The research technoques used include observations, workshops and interviews with congregants. Data was also collected using a questionaire designed to sample the congregation for their growth in understanding the concept of listening deeply like Jesus. The result of this project has been an embracing of the active listening model in the communications among church members at Calvary United Methodist Church. Liberty Square is a 54-square-block area of federally subsidized housing located in Liberty City.  Eight African-American congregations surround Liberty Square, but over 200 African-American churches are located in Liberty City.  Most of these churches have ignored the problems in Liberty Square. While the traditional assimilation model only takes a person from evangelization to membership in the church, the full assimilation model takes a person all the way from evangelization to maturity in Christ. What pastors and other church leaders now require are theo-poetic forums, in which we might explore the words, images and metaphors that influence the way we do ministry in the postmodern world.  The biblical text itself yields an abundance of possible literary and mythic associations -- many of which have compelling resonance with those who feel estranged and alienated from the institutional church community.  This project offers analysis of truly 'raw data,' which does not include numerical gauges and statistical percentages. The most insightful data in the case of the Crossroads Presbyterian Church of Limerick, Pennsylvania, arises from the primordial creative capacity of those who respond to passages like Matthew 13:52 and testify, in word and in deed, to the Truth of the ever-elusive and unfolding Gospel Story. A change is needed for the church.  It is critical for the church to understand Generation X and learn from those who affiliate with congregations.  Here are described the findings of focus groups of new members composed of different demographic groups at two congregations.  Through surveys, these findings and expected generational characteristics are compared to Gen X new members of Central Presbyterian Church in Saint Paul. The program was extremely cost-efficient and had good human resource stewardship.
