The interview responses cover four areas: 1) midlife experience, 2) spiritual needs, 3) diversity, and 4) church involvement and satisfaction. Orthodox Church development in North America, the Middle Eastern migration, problems of settlement, and adjusting to the American culture contribute to several images that trouble the parish but also provide insights into strategies for continuing the ancient faith."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127355914190848,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:36.748Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"fc31ba18-ddc6-4907-9b2d-b9d8263bfc4a","accessControl_ssim":["753c158e-afc0-4e0b-a3e6-6d2cac06cc37"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A model for developing a missional church through a focus on the Gospel according to Luke"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:20:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["bd4cd90a-19a6-485c-ba50-a59d2cbd5f75"],"hasLease_ssim":["c4f30472-2168-43fa-827a-8d27a6eaef10"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen Hayner"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jason S Whitener"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Missionaries--Training of","Bible. While the major cause of this is a lack of biblical, theological truth applied at the pastoral level, the result of it is the disappearance of an important spiritual foundation necessary for the development and maintenance of spiritual stability in the modern church. The practice of worship in the Reformed Church initially was driven by a perspective fixed on a high view of God and characterized by a formal-liturgical style. That historical heritage was lost over time because changing perspectives allowed the introduction of a variety of styles that were heavily influenced by social and technological developments. These new and different worship expressions increasingly have ignored the important and unchanging biblical view of worship in favor of yielding to a demand for a more emotional experience. More importantly, the current trend is causing the church to become accustomed to the absence of an applied theology of worship. That theology is necessary for making good decisions regarding appropriate expressions of worship in the personal life and in the life of the local church for years to come. An examination of the biblical data from a historical and grammatical perspective revealed that worship is the expression of a Christian's commitment to a lifestyle of venerating God through an unceasing remembrance of his glory, a willing submission to his lordship, and a conscious life of spiritual service. Thus, the worship of God is designed to be the single most dominant spiritual feature of one's personal life and therefore the faith life of the church throughout the generations. This understanding is essential to promoting and sustaining healthy faith, so it must constantly be reaffirmed in the evangelical church. The most effective way to do that is in the training phase of present and future church leaders. The development and evaluation of a seminary training course on The Theology and Practice of Worship is designed to meet that need."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130749623074816,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:36:33.241Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:17:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4bc03837-7e77-4462-abe7-d0d49ffb2573","accessControl_ssim":["001f5ad6-39dc-4c02-818d-534bccef5ab9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Congregational evangelism"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:11:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:21:19Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c24cc231-8379-4d87-ae89-f09e6b5fb1b2"],"hasLease_ssim":["25a6785c-4461-47ae-bebc-19f844c0f802"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Nancy Tatom Ammerman"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas J Vencuss"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Community--Religious aspects","Evangelistic work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The decline in membership and worship attendance in the mainline church over the past 40 years is well documented. It is the author's belief that the key to the revitalization of the church, spiritual and numerical, is effective evangelism. Yet in most local churches evangelism is not taught or practiced, given little or no financial support, and in many cases discouraged by pastors and denominational hierarchy. Through this Doctor of Ministry project Pastor Tom Vencuss developed and implemented a program of evangelism designed to develop a greater understanding of, and desire to do, evangelism within a mainline congregation. At the end most participants reported a moderate or significant change in their attitude toward evangelism with the most significant change in their attitude toward evangelism with the most significant change occurring over a long (two-year) period of time."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125798843842560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:17:51.810Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
