The pastoral methodology of this study involves taking participants seriously as 'living human documents,' introducing them to soulful poetry and creative theology as two methods for surpassing the epistemological barriers that prevent them from reappropriating and reimagining Christian tradition. The goal of the pastoral initiative is to rectify spiritual deadness and irrelevance. In the end a more hopeful story of spiritual well-being is recovered."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b5eba5c2-141b-4673-9689-2f9720736859"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129216826212352,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:12:11.452Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:09:30Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:53:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"41007ac8-ecfb-4d95-8cee-f36814af9118","accessControl_ssim":["791859dc-d156-4422-af30-f53b679b006b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["A model for increased session involvement in confirmation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:09:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:01:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c7a776ae-d35f-435c-be0f-01796d92e310"],"hasLease_ssim":["f6b40cf8-4305-4825-ab59-da0fb6496c9e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen Hayner"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Andrew Chaney"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Confirmation","Christian education--Teaching methods"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to describe the increased involvement of the members of session in the confirmation process, and to examine the session's response to that increase. They are not dead because both husbands and wives still live together; they are not separated or divorced. The marriage is not alive either because the union has become sour, bitter, and burdensome. In the search to find out how best to reverse this trend, communication skills stand out as one solution. The project is a research into literature from leading authorities in both secular and religious communities on communication skills with particular reference to strengthening marital relationships. Care was taken in the selection of materials to assure sound biblical foundation. The materials selected were used to develop lesson plans for training couples in communication that leads to relationship building. The purpose of this project was to train a select group of married couples of Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Lagos, Nigeria in communication skills to strengthen marriage. The training sessions focused on developing participants in communication that builds up relationships with the overall goal of producing a healthy marital relationship that leads to security and stability of Christian homes. The focus of the project is on verbal, face-to-face, communication between couples. Hence, the discussions during the seminars emphasized components of communication such as listening, self disclosure, and transparency. As the project progressed, it became obvious that participants, though vast in Bible knowledge, pay very little attention to applying biblical principles to their lifestyle. This meant that the discipleship programs which many of the participants attended and their personal Bible studies emphasized head knowledge rather than heart knowledge. What changes people is the application of Bible principles to everyday life, not just the hearing of the word, but the doing of the word. Therefore, the project emphasized application rather than theoretical knowledge of the Bible to achieve the desired goal. As a result of this finding, couples' ministry has been fully established in the church with monthly activities. These activities include continuous relationship evaluation, identifying strength and growth areas needed in relationship building, and teaching communication and conflict resolution skills that strengthen interpersonal relationships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718824238383104,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:40:19.428Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
