A review of literature in postmodern and emerging church ministry, in communication and learning theory, and in contemporary homiletics is compared with biblical evidence about the roles and purposes of illustrations in preaching.  A survey of pastors is conducted to discover homiletical, technical, and theological guidelines for the use of video clips in sermons. The project director researched worship planning and theology and wrote a seven week curriculum designed to teach about biblical worship and worship planning.  He taught it to nine people.  Effectiveness was measured using pre-tests, post-tests, class evaluations, worship service evaluations by an outside expert, focus groups, journal, and a follow-up interview. The orders are provided in the Holy Scriptures, and every local congregation needs to know from God's Word why they exist and what they are attempting to accomplish.  With the goal of developing a ministry plan for Fellowship Church of Carol Stream, Illinois, a dozen nearby churches were examined for ministry effectiveness utilizing the collecting and analysis of anonymous congregational surveys. This project led students to develop an understanding of a theology of the cross along with its practical implications for their personal lives and for their own ministry opportunities. Since theology is itself a dialogical discipline, a small group of students was enlisted to study together a theology of the cross as well as how they could apply a cruciform theology throughout the Baptist Student Ministry. This project lasted for one semester and attempted to include all of the students that were involved in the Baptist Student Ministry Program. The majority of the work, however, was completed by a smaller, select group of students. A larger group of students were asked to evaluate the testimonies, devotional materials, and sermons prepared by the select group. The project consisted of a focus group of thirteen pastors participating in a workshop forum. A quantitative research design was used with pre and post-tests. The hypothesis addresses the problem of a lack of an available systematic servant leadership-training model, which could better equip laity and incumbent deacons in carrying out the duties of the office of deacon more effectively.  A qualitative action research methodology consisting of pre and posttest questionnaire was used to measure understanding and attitude changes based on completion of the instructional training modules. The methodology of this study comprised the design and selection of three instruments, the application of the surveys, and data analysis.  The findings enabled the researcher to create a profile of the observed community. The project goal is renewed zeal in church leaders to be involved in ministry. Project activities attempt to change attitudes and behaviors in the deacon body. Deacons will participate in joint ministry with a growing church in a similar ministry context. Deacons will assess the church's present ministry in a one-day retreat. Deacons' attitudes will be challenged through a survey of unchurched nonbelievers in the community. Deacons will examine biblical ministry mandates in a ten-week seminar. In the final two meetings, deacons will formulate plans for involving other church members in ministry, reflecting their changed attitudes and behavior in ministry. Church who had experienced the loss of a loved one.  The model embraced the existence of current and ancestral grief as the unique grief experienced by African Americans when their loved ones die.  The project offered comfort and empowerment through recognition, confrontation and reconciliation of this unique grief.  The researcher conducted triangulation qualitative research, using interview, survey and focus group methodology.  This project consisted of a five-phase program in which bereaved members of Ebenezer participated.
