A training program is provided to meet this need.  Each chapter is presented with the thesis in mind.  The first chapter presents views of specific theologians on the subject of suffering and the expected role of lay ministers to meet the needs of the suffering.  Subsequent chapters provide practical considerations for lay ministers.  The final chapter presents the development, execution, and assessment of the training program. Using selected women, the writer facilitated discussions to provide a framework for female solidarity. Members of the Bible study group grew spiritually and attained a sense of belonging and connectedness as they shared beliefs, experiences, values, and needs. The author has developed a model which uses core components of the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) combined with psalms and other faith-based resources to form a protocol for a faithful intervention in a crisis situation. It finds that all parties must watch for potential issues to arise from members' unexamined and pastors' internalized homophobia. The linkage to story is done by examining some different contexts in which story plays a role.  This served to develop paradigms for the Bible studies. Using the information gathered, the author wrote a chronicle of the history of the congregation.  The thesis was that a church's story is the key to its future.  The author also produced two DVDs.  One was filmed at the church and recorded the past and present and looks to the future. The individuals who completed this training received information on worship styles and doctrinal elements of worship and were taught technical and practical skills to plan and conduct weekly contemporary, seeker friendly worship services. The narrative case study reflects on the process of gathering a team of artists around a single vision and practicing dialogue through collaborative worship planning.
