Data is drawn from examination of selected exegetical, historical, theological, and sociological literature and from two surveys given to a sample of participants and ministers in the FGBC. Effectiveness of the program was evaluated by African American male and female pastors. Ratings were grouped and analyzed by gender; differences were not statistically different. Both groups affirmed value in the program's capacity to facilitate family discussions about organ donation and to underscore the need for donation in African American communities. To a lesser extent, evaluators responded favorably to the program's capacity to correct informational barriers. A four-week sermon series on the purpose and importance of a deacon ministry served as the first chief component of the project.  Second, the director led the church in the process of nominating, electing, and ordaining deacons to serve Immanuel Baptist Church.  Third, after a diaconate was established, the project director provided a training course for the deacons. The church began without the acquisition of land for a permanent site. This paper sought to discern how the dislocated status of the church served to shape congregational identity, particularly in relation to the intention of becoming a missional community. The author offers an emerging picture of where the church is in relation to the vision of establishing a missional congregation and how the lack of a permanent site for worship has affected development. Biblical, theological, and educational foundations for the approach are explored, and the model/tool for group process ('Joining Hearts and Voices') is evaluated with the help of eight partner-congregations in the eastern part of the United States. However, the author discovered that switching to a method geared to predominantly postmodern hearers can leave more traditional hearers feeling 'left behind.' Over the sermons in this project he explored postmodern preaching methods, but also checked in with more traditional hearers. Data was gathered by survey and interviews in a group setting. For small churches, there are ways that we can preach to new generations so that none are 'lost' or 'left behind.' This thesis discusses variety in preaching styles as a way to be inclusive for all those worshiping in smaller congregations. Many refer to this authentic self as having 'voice'. Those of us coming out of patriarchal social systems such as the Christian Reformed Church find this difficult. We were discouraged from speaking out or claiming our voice. Being on the bottom of a cosmic hierarchy leaves us deficient in self-esteem, self-confidence and a sense of personal competence. What happens when a woman called to preach has lost her voice and not yet found it? In this qualitative study of one particular congregation, the vital relationship between the praxis of evangelism and how we understand Christian identity will be examined.  A brief survey in the Gospel narratives will be offered to observe the role of Jesus' identity in his ministry and evangelistic witness.  A theological review of the modern reductionism of the gospel and the praxis of evangelism in North America will lead toward a renewed biblical framework for each, rooted in the reign of God.
