Grounding contemplation/action in a process that is dynamically and fundamentally part of the human condition, the author offers insights into activist, Dorothy Day, and monastic, Thomas Merton. It was designed to explore the concept of self-identity in two separate small group settings: the Reform Jewish community in Sioux Falls, S.D., and the Palestinian Christian community.  Miroslav Volf's research on reconciliation supported the exploration of self-identity as a foundation in the journey towards reconciliation.  Salvation Oracles in Ezekiel were utilized to facilitate discussion of the relationship between identity and land. The author visited three of these ministry settings, conducted interviews and used case studies to determine which practices promote ecumenical understanding.  Friendship among local pastors, and ecumenical leadership among judicatory officials are formative. The researcher designed a spiritual gift workshop that included an evaluation process to test his thesis.  The evaluation process included results of two surveys and several measurement tools. This study was conducted to determine the affect, if any, of church participation on the quality of and satisfaction in marriage. Six couples who take an active part in church activities were interviewed and the results of their experiences were studied. These results showed a positive influence of their church activity on their respective marriages. Several of the reasons found for this positive feeling were hope and support, giving of oneself, friends and social engagements, and an overall good attitude toward marriage and life in general.
