In 2002 seventy percent of the pastors had less than fifteen years in ministry. The members' expectations of their pastor have changed and become widely polarized. Since there is not an evaluation and affirmation system in place, many of the pastors struggle to find satisfaction in pastoral work. One of the major premises of this project is that pastors are central figures in the church and the success of God's work is largely dependent on how effectively pastors function. Method: A Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessment and four additional assessment tools Dick and Miller's Profile of Congregational Leadership were administered to the Hungarian Adventist pastors with the goal of assisting each pastor to better face the many changes and challenges in society. Results: A strategy was developed to improve professional competencies, spiritual assessment, and the placement of Hungarian pastors. The strategy will be implemented and assessed partly through this Doctor of Ministry project, and further recommendations will be given to different entities concerned in Hungary. This strategy will improve the relatively young pastoral team's leadership skills, will improve cultural sensitivity, and will help the pastoral team grow in gift-based ministries. This project will also help the administration of the church in Hungary to follow a preference-based pastoral placement plan. Conclusion: If pastoral competencies are maximized pastors can successfully fulfill the role of a change agent in the church to prepare the members to impact their community and society in Hungary."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andrews University"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4b1d9df2-25d6-46f6-a889-1871c277d61c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135269477416960,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:48:23.710Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"737a4724-f599-4aa1-8e8f-af3c98ca858e","accessControl_ssim":["a33e32fc-ea55-4e80-a105-fce9f0d4babe"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The senior pastor/executive pastor team: contemporary paradigm for the larger church staff"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:30:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["51e0e703-8c38-4c3d-8c74-d9949418ffe3"],"hasLease_ssim":["4fe6bad5-fd81-44db-8fea-2d96acad4c89"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Philip D Douglass"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John T Hawco"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Theology, Practical"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The emergence of the executive pastor (EP) as an accepted member of the pastoral staff in larger churches has only recently been the subject of formal study. Previously, EPs were informed about their roles through networking. Though deployed in churches for over 20 years, many EPs forged their own job-descriptions and not all EPs share the same titles or tasks. The essence of the role is lifting the administrative burden from the senior pastor (SP). Recent studies have explored the value of utilizing EPs to implement the church's vision, as well as the competencies needed to do so. Though some EPs recognize a transitory dimension to their role there are common principles and experiences for most EPs. This study looks into contextual and relational factors affecting the senior pastor/executive pastor team paradigm. EP focus groups and SP phone interviews were utilized as supplemental explorations of themes revealed during initial interaction with knowledgeable informants. The reasons for the creation of the EP position in the participating churches was explored, as well as current staffing arrangements and dynamics. Of particular importance was the creation and maintenance of the primary relationship, that between the EP and the SP. Common practices and attitudes must be in place to make an SPEP team successful and thus beneficial to the church. To understand these factors, helpful principles, stories, proverbs, and analogies were discussed. Also explored were the biblical illustrations and/or theological underpinnings for the use of an SPEP team."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130988378587136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:40:20.936Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5bdcdc1b-f577-475e-abbd-4b14ebcde581","accessControl_ssim":["d19f1fc6-6fe2-48ed-a26e-ad1489273708"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Living into a vision: a case study of Riverview Park Reformed Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:49:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3c7836da-de6f-4cd5-ae46-3fdd76a3e29a"],"hasLease_ssim":["51d3724e-905f-43e9-b1e8-0f7abdfa20ea"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas Arthur Boogaart"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rodney D Veldhuizen"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI)"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Reformed","Church renewal--Reformed Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a case study of one congregation, the Riverview Park Reformed Church. The focus of the study is how the congregation moved from being a divided and conflicted community to a community that is growing and vital. The perspective that is taken in this study is a systems approach that sees the church as much more than the sum of its parts and examines how various systems came together to promote health or dysfunction. This case study revealed that church revitalization is complex dynamic that requires more than a programmatic approach. Findings supported in this study are: 1) Understanding the history of both congregation and leadership is important for church health. 2) The mix of positive and negative influences that shape a congregation and its leadership and their interplay need to be understood in any process of health and revitalization. 3) The process of moving toward health is more important than the program used. 4) Before a congregation or pastor can become healthy it is imperative that both understand their past and the factors that both helped and hindered their development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135532569329664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:34.614Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:43:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"98fdfaca-511d-45ba-a331-4b4c5adbbdb4","accessControl_ssim":["059b048a-6561-4e98-9a4d-d31bd665c73e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An examination of how a PCA pastor further understands the grieving process due to death and dying in the context of the Korean Central Presbytery"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:36:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5f00d39b-98ba-4464-9614-f95537412cfa"],"hasLease_ssim":["80bf63d6-47a5-4425-9d8c-174ba1bd4846"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Stephen W Chang"],"publisher_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Chaplains, Hospital","Korean Americans","Presbyterian Church in America","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Terminal care"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Originally submitted as: To examine how a PCA pastor further understands the grieving process due to death and dying in the context of the Korean Central Presbytery"],"abstract_tesim":["As a hospital chaplain, I frequently see survivors suffering because they have lost their loved one. Even survivors who expected the death suffer and do not know how to deal with it. The death of their loved one demands they deal with the experience of death whether they want to or not. Many Korean-American pastors and congregations would like to comfort them but may not know how. Korean-American survivors may even be ignored by their pastors and churches. As a Korean-American chaplain, even I sometimes feel challenged to know how to care for them. I would like to see Korean-American people cared for by Korean-American congregations. But I also want Korean-Americans to be cared for by other Christians. My purpose in this dissertation is to help improve the way Korean-American pastors and their congregations care for survivors. Since this is a broad topic, I have decided to narrow my project by focusing on survivors of natural and unexpected death of adults in Korean-American churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131216414507008,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:43:58.408Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:46:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"703a275a-51b4-4e2a-98cb-0e0c49a5e47f","accessControl_ssim":["9b8ff768-a64b-470a-a779-e403f47f76ff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Stories tell the story in Appalachia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:09Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:25:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f5bf303e-95d9-4976-90ff-01d161910810"],"hasLease_ssim":["cfeb7f6a-9b22-48c1-8d83-3990861e05bf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"location_tesim":["Appalachian Region"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
