Therefore, the preacher/pastor must include therapeutic sermons within the preaching calendar.  The purpose of this research was to focus on the necessity and the nature of preaching expository sermons that are therapeutic from biblical, theological, and historical perspectives.  The concept of therapeutic absorbency was introduced as being a necessary part of therapeutic preaching.  A defense of expository preaching as the appropriate method for preaching therapeutic sermons was also given.  The literature review integrated the contributions of authors on preaching and on preaching as it relates to pastoral care. This served as the basis for the development of a curriculum for a workshop. In the sermons attached, preached during the fall of 2004 in a rural congregation on the west coast of Sweden, I have tried to use specific concrete details, as a means to convey God's love.  During the process, much of the focus moved, from the question of using details in general, to the more specific question of how to convey grace.  It became very clear to me, how easy it is to be specific and concrete in describing the law, or the problems in this world, and how difficult it is to be concrete as to grace and God's presence.  Very often that part is expressed more in abstractions and principals, by way of which you risk to leave people with a vivid experience of the law, and a sense of despair, as God's intervention seems so weak.  The conclusion of the thesis is that it is utterly important for the preaching, to move closer. Biblical preaching texts have been approached from a binary Law/Gospel point of view by Lutheran preachers.  This paper offers an alternative approach that responds to the needs of hearers today.  In Scripture and Lutheran theology the Good News is more than justification. In seeking an entire congregational response to one particular devotional, I hope to develop patterns and habits of daily devotions and therefore, motivate more of the congregation to seek spiritual nurture through daily devotions once the seasons outlined in this devotion are completed.  This devotion is a thematic, word study devotional.  We explore one topic or theme for each week examining the many ways a particular word or word group is used in the Old and New Testaments.
