The basic idea for the thesis developed as a result of class discussions on spiritual renewal and models of Christian spirituality. It also grew out of reading dynamics of the spiritual life and renewal as a way of life. Spiritual renewal occurred in the evangelical Protestant church due to their emphasis on outward mission, the fulfillment of the Great Commission, the person and power of the Holy Spirit, and the prevailing power of prayer. Both Simpson and Bright saw the Protestant church in America and the world as impotent and in need of revival and renewal. As they emphasized evangelism and discipleship, they became effective change agents for renewal, as they were able to motivate thousands of willing workers for the task of world evangelization. The parachurch groups they started were not rivals to the existing Protestant church. Both men saw themselves as working with other likeminded evangelical Christians for the restoration and renewal of the church to a place of prominence and power throughout the world. Eventually, many of the individuals evangelized and discipled by the Christian and Missionary Alliance and Campus Crusade for Christ became involved in local churches, evangelical schools, and missionary sending agencies. By the year 2004, these ministries continue in their efforts to evangelize and disciple people throughout the world in their desire help fulfill the Great Commission in obedience to Christ's command."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130491615707136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:32:27.185Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:59:36Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:28:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f09e01ec-1702-49b3-a49a-8c0e3db6ca3f","accessControl_ssim":["bf6b3c06-a35b-4100-8e3f-5f214f7ba8e2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a gift-based equipping ministry system to mobilize people for Christian service at High Park Baptist Church, Toronto, Ontario"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:59:35Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:00:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f524b317-a009-439f-87ba-84f9936a4457"],"hasLease_ssim":["43603cf4-fd1f-41dd-b19f-d4bae7544751"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Martin R Crain","James R Moore"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Taiwo A Adeboboye"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["High Park Baptist Church (Toronto, Ont)","Church work","Spiritual formation","Gifts, Spiritual"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to develop an equipping ministry system that enabled the discovery of the needs, gifts and talents of eighteen people at High Park Baptist Church in Toronto, leading each person to function in the gift that the Holy Spirit has granted. It was discovered that most of the participants were unaware of their spiritual gift(s) prior to the spiritual gift knowledge assessment; that people will serve if asked and if they believe that they are making a unique contribution to a well-organized effort based on their giftedness and passion; that church ministry functions at its optimal level when people work in teams; and that rediscovering the Biblical basis for gift-based ministry can bring about a renewal and reformation in the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721882343178240,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:28:55.865Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:59:19Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:09:56Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b74fcedc-d122-4118-8859-3f9d15335785","accessControl_ssim":["3a130b39-e644-45b4-9c54-80ade1436386"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The hermeneutics of Acts: a foundation for the development of a college-level exposition course on the book of Acts"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:59:18Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:25:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["90c05a01-1acb-4cc2-9ebb-23ae03d3f113"],"hasLease_ssim":["7afaea19-5982-4065-8356-ec3910e561d6"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Grant R Osborne"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeffrey C Billingsley"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Trinity International University"],"subject_tesim":["Bible. The author sets forth a responsible five-step interpretive process to convert a time-bound precept to a contextualized timeless principle. Closer to home the priority of preaching slides in our churches amidst a culture sedated by information overload and anti-intellectualism. Moreover, missiologists report that where the church is exploding in African, Latin American and Asian continents, new converts are regularly enfolded into churches that are led by inadequately trained bi-vocational pastors. Significant kingdom gains are frequently undermined by weak theology in the pulpit and spurious teaching. The result is a weakened church. Good preaching is critical to the health and wellbeing of our churches. More specifically, it is expository preaching that best equips and sustains healthy, reproducing congregations. This project is my attempt to address this reality. Therefore, the first two chapters of this project demonstrate a complete frame of reference for conducting marriage and family counseling including explication of a fully integrated biblical/theological rationale for such counseling interventions. The special third chapter on premarital counseling is included to emphasize the importance of this often over-looked resource in marriage and family counseling. The theoretical framework for marriage and family counseling ministry presented in this project is cogently informed by the literature review in the second chapter leading to a clear definition of stylistic differentials. An example of one preferred and experientially typical style of intervention is demonstrated in the fourth chapter through a comprehensive family case study. The case study includes essential components of evaluative and interventive planning, such as diagnostic tools and apparatus, description and assessment of individual and family system dynamics, conceptualization process and development of a cohesive treatment plan using cognitive-behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, and resources for spiritual formation, growth, and discipleship. The comprehensive treatment plan is followed in the fifth chapter by a critical evaluation and analysis of how the case has actually progressed to date. Furthermore, this chapter describes how the case has contributed to the student practitioner's learning process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131796564344832,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:53:11.682Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:58:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:40:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9f8d616f-249f-48f0-8fae-f8cd09573a89","accessControl_ssim":["edb54521-b464-42c7-bc6f-fd5b92482680"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Let the church say amen: celebrating congregational response and identity by reclaiming African American preaching"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:58:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:47:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["738de46f-9c61-4cf0-83a3-db8c48236c17"],"hasLease_ssim":["2f61c62c-7ba8-4440-bae0-e43d777d28c0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Harry L Parker"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Evan C Hines"],"publisher_tesim":["Northern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["African American preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Using the theories of John Goldingay, Thomas Long, Henry Mitchell, and Frank Thomas, this project illustrates a systematic attempt to exemplify the new homiletic. The methodology applied reveals that while celebration has cultural traits depending upon context, it also has a biblical and theologically precedence and warrants being experienced by every Christian community.
