Rev. Neville Gosman met weekly with each of the five men for one year to help these five potential leaders grow into maturity and to meet the critical need at City Heights Church to expand its leadership base. Two separate standardized single-group interrupted time-series surveys were given to all five first time leaders, a control group, and thirty active participants of City Heights Church. This paper examines how one pastor embodied the theory in a way that takes into account the more inclusive transformation of the gospel. Bowen's theory helped give the pastor a framework in which to understand events in the life of the congregation. There were, however, problems with how the pastor initially utilized the theory. The goal of objectivity inherent in Bowen's Family System Theory was initially utilized by the pastor as a reason to discount the value of feelings and the pastor's own emotional process. The discounting of feelings encouraged the pastor to continue a pattern of overfunctioning. It shows how the pastor engaged in an overfunctioning/underfunctioning relationship with himself and the congregation. To counteract the pastor's tendency to overfunction, the project utilizes a theology of God's immanence as discerned in the biblical tree of life. This thesis shows how with coaching, practice, and theological reflection, the pastor was able to reconnect with his own emotional process and gain trust in God's salvation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135596750569472,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:53:35.822Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:30:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:18:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d7199c42-aba2-48b1-bbcb-0dd738462f50","accessControl_ssim":["d2aa7981-9fa1-4783-a5b3-884ac97f4aa1"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The African American Catholic Assembly: towards 'full, conscious and active' participation in liturgical celebration and black life"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:30:00Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:16:51Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["334657a8-5d80-40bb-ab6d-d10f220f51da"],"hasLease_ssim":["cad88bd6-a4ca-4a31-8341-e0c6d5c17c4e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"advisor_tesim":["Richard E McCarron"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kathleen Dorsey Bellow"],"publisher_tesim":["Catholic Theological Union"],"subject_tesim":["Participation","African American churches","Lord's Supper--Catholic Church","African Americans--Religion","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Understanding social action as a gospel mandate, the researcher tested the extent to which Sunday Eucharist celebration orders the lives of believers for Christian mission; and reciprocally, whether just living compels the faithful toward 'full, conscious and active participation' in Sunday liturgy. The team identified growth in assurance and capability for intercessory prayer; the congregation affirmed the team's ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["6c1e11e8-b66e-47b6-8fe9-6c546c20935c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134070163374080,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:29:19.955Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:30:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:31:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"58795439-939d-4736-a1f5-7b877fcf9933","accessControl_ssim":["9e78869e-aeb4-4a0c-9195-64ca806e6022"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Practices and characteristics for pastors renewing mailine congregations: case studies from the Presbytery of Memphis"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:29:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:43:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b410da61-a94c-42ff-b15e-67b5a495e582"],"hasLease_ssim":["9e770781-4b62-4ee3-b96c-766296f16a44"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Terry C Muck"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"location_tesim":["Tennessee--Memphis"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["George C Scruggs"],"publisher_tesim":["Asbury Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Membership"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study was to discern relationships between a biblically derived shepherd/servant model of leadership and the revitalization of local congregations in the Presbytery of Memphis of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) The dynamic model developed in this dissertation combines the shepherd and servant metaphors to develop a biblical, narrative-driven model for transformational leadership. Employing a comparative literary approach, it compares and contrasts the structures and themes in selected Lukan parables with comparable sermonic material preserved in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Its conclusion is that Catholic preaching can become more holistically biblical once Catholic preachers balance more intentionally their generally halakic homiletic approach to Scripture with the more Haggadic approach of the Rabbi Jesus, as demonstrated in the stewardship parables from the Gospel of Luke."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130299810185216,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:24.266Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:29:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:36Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0ea8b0c7-d735-4845-a46d-4c717cad74f2","accessControl_ssim":["848cb4cc-0adf-4d1c-9708-e83130a59574"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Demystifying mystagogy: preaching mystagogically throughout the liturgical year"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:29:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:32:06Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["97442e4e-f130-4415-a5d6-f6d46269c0fd"],"hasLease_ssim":["478e74dd-d2a0-4e0a-bfb6-d42d0c353bdf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Catherine Vincie"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael A Woroniewicz"],"keyword_tesim":["Preaching, Catholic"],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Catholic Church","Preaching","Mystagogy","Liturgics"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis project surveys ancient mystagogy and five ancient examples of mystagogical preaching, as well as contemporary mystagogical thought and five presentday mystagogical homilies. Drawing conclusions from these, the author holds that preachers can compose powerful mystagogical preaching by combining life experience, Sacred Scripture, and elements of the liturgy (ritual words, symbols, or actions) in the Easter Season and throughout the Church Year. The author also provides a methodology for preparing a mystagogical homily. Finally, he proposes a format for a workshop for preachers on the topic."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["416f1c5f-a1c7-4596-b214-83b6abadee9c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129941249622016,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:23:42.316Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
