It is concerned with questions regarding the biblical nature of calling, its historical application, and its current impact upon church planters. The thesis focuses, thought not exclusively, upon church planters within the Southern Baptist Convention, of which the author is a part. This convention plants between fifteen hundred and two thousand churches in North American every year. The thesis begins with a presentation of the problem: that the Southern Baptist Convention has moved away from evaluating church planting candidates for ministry primarily based upon their call and their character. These qualities have been replaced with a premium upon competence. The author then looks at the call biblically, theologically, and historically to see how others have responded to this concern in other settings. The work then presents the project description, in which the author developed a questionnaire, a conference, and a series of interviews with church planters to assess their opinion about this need in their own lives. It closes with a chapter on conclusions based upon the project and implications for further studies that still need to be done. A question the thesis poses is whether these mileposts differ between church planters and all others who are called into ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129749470314496,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:20:39.421Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:13:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:23:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"05bbf294-2633-406a-b6b4-162384428605","accessControl_ssim":["b59fdba8-e50c-454f-a17d-6bf1dbc95cb6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching in a addictive culture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:12:59Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:17:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8ffbdde2-769d-44af-bcdd-706112b0197d"],"hasLease_ssim":["a20e321f-37c5-4a9e-a105-d3701ed66e30"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles E Bouchard"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Michael A Becker"],"publisher_tesim":["Aquinas Institute of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy","Laity","Alcoholics Anonymous","Church work with addicts","Self-disclosure"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Pastoral preaching in an addictive culture can be therapeutic when it is informed by the theology and method of the 12 step program pioneered by Alcoholics Anonymous. With coming of the two religions, however, this practice was ignored and as such tension and conflicts between the followers of the two Abrahamic faiths ensued. The need to reclaim the indigenous practice and to be given its rightful place in the African society daily life, and specifically to be applied in resolving conflicts between Christian and Muslims in the country is of inestimable importance. Of the many issues of conflict that could be addressed using utu is the education system. Over the past centuries, the education system in Tanzania underwent extreme changes all of which left an impact on the people. It is the educational issue that has contributed to the collapse of Christian-Muslim in the country as each side justifies or blames the other because of what happened in the past, which has become a legacy of the present situation. The concept of utu tries to understand how the African education system worked and how the same idea of utu could shade light on the current education system and thereby resolve the conflict that emanates from this issue. Thus, the project looks at the efforts done by both Muslim and Christian organizations in dealing with the situation, not only in education but also in the totality of relationships. The main argument of utu in dealing with the situation in the country centers on the premise that an African Muslim and Christian is an African first and then a follower of his or her religion (Islam or Christianity.) To parallel the idea of utu the concept of Global Ethic as proposed by Hans Küng and others is used in order to bring to light what utu is all about both in local and global contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799721450659119104,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:22:04.179Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:12:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:23:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"56ddc070-d7b9-448c-acf5-617e8a03959a","accessControl_ssim":["e3b02dc7-f2a9-4cb4-9a98-45eabc9e6505"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Esprit de corps: building Christian community in an Army chapel through celebrative preaching on the Holy Spirit"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:12:29Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:41:02Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["51b2da80-e0e2-421b-a70c-0405c96812a0"],"hasLease_ssim":["663ca178-5153-437c-ac6c-5c56ea08e745"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paris Donehoo","John A Dally"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald W Wunsch"],"publisher_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Military chaplains","United States. The staff at New Horizons Ministries (NHM) intuitively understandd the complexity of the homeless runaway adolescent (HRA) life and the counterproductivity of street life. A systemic analysis of the complex problem of youths being unable to exit street life and an evaluation of the ministry of New Horizons will be used to confront the plethora of issues and strategies for service delivery that confront the ministry of NHM. NHM believes that HRA running from abusive environments face further abuse, exploitation, and isolation on the street. Serving these youths in a deeply relational context NHM follows the model of table fellowship to the marginalized illustrated in Luke's Gospel. NHM staff surround youths with concentric circles of support that empower and equip youths to live healthy, interdependent lifestyles. This philosophy of service is based in the missiological categories of the ministry of Jesus and modeled by the early church. Service, worship, community, and proclamation begin to relationally connect these youths with the Biblical definition of community and address the isolating issues involved in street activity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131445142487040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:47:36.540Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":13089,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
