The project is a result of years of research including interviews with other clergy in the American context regarding the task of disciple-making. The methodology includes narrative, theological reflection, and the relaying of little-known histories. The author researched the process involved in the metamorphosis of the biblical Satan between the Old and New Testaments. She concluded that religious syncretism, the popularity of Hellenism, and Jewish apocalyptic literature, helped to distinguish Satan as an independent, supernatural adversary of God. The New Testament Satan acts as an adversary to Jesus. The project used a pastor focus group to collect information and identify attitudes, to which the evangelism team responded with implications and recommendations. While the primary purpose of the paper was to validate and encourage the use of art illustrations in preaching, the expected result was not achieved.  The failed result was due to art illustrations being unfamiliar to the majority of congregations.  This would be an attempt to clarify the unfamiliar or abstract with another unfamiliar or abstract point. The hypothesis of this dissertation states that less than 25 percent of Basic Training graduates have trained lay leaders to become disciplemakers.  This project includes presentation of previous literature on leadership development in church planting situations.  Two types of churches are identified with several categories in each type.  Examples of leadership development processes are cited for each category.
