In short, credible preaching requires credible preachers. Chapter one introduces the thesis. Chapter two seeks to demonstrate from Scripture that the possession of godly character constitutes part of God's call to preach. It is also proposed that possessing godly character is a practical necessity for any preacher who hopes to effectively proclaim God's truth on earth and gain an abundant entry into heaven. Furthermore, chapter two seeks to define the godly character Scripture requires of a preacher. Finally, this chapter offers three means available to preachers for the development of godly character in their lives. Chapter three of this paper reviews both secular and religious literature from the fields of communication, preaching, and leadership. This review focuses on research and literature that support the premise the who a preacher is cannot be separated from what a preacher proclaims. Chapter four is the final product of this project--a book. The book, entitled The sermon of your life, is based on the contents of chapters two and three. While no preacher can be perfect, this paper concludes that when a preacher's life is marked by spiritual maturity ad continued growth in righteousness the life-changing power of his preaching is enhanced."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130139810070528,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:26:51.678Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:06:01Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8d0c959b-6157-445b-9d20-384d94ffe397","accessControl_ssim":["8ff30f8a-e379-469d-9753-7e7d89d12eb4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The ministry of the whole people of God in a mainline church: a critical exploration"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:06:01Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:16:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["287507aa-58ed-45f9-8d79-faffd85398ae"],"hasLease_ssim":["57985215-bad8-4a99-9b18-309f722a9f02"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Norman Maciver"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Lay Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is a critical exploration and evaluation of the practice and development of the Ministry of the Whole People of God in a mainline denominational congregation. The criteria for the selection was based on their suitability for teaching community values and relationships to young children. The key moral values taught were love, kindness, caring, friendship, and sharing. The five biblical stories were used as a center of interest when developing character and teaching values to the three to five-year-old preschoolers. Character education is easier to espouse in the abstract than to provide in the concrete. So in writing the storytelling curriculum for character development, which I feel was successful, I tried to be as concrete as possible. The objectives for the writing of the curriculum were: (1) to develop a curriculum on Christian character development for preschoolers using a comparative approach which will be pilot-tested and then taught at the Goldia and Robert Naylor Children's Center at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary; (2) to develop supplementary ways to present character development, teaching and forms of evaluation which will include parents' participation; and (3) to gain firsthand experience in writing stories for preschoolers and understanding preschoolers as well as involving their parents in the process of character education."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131776867893248,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:52:52.898Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:06:00Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"87cbda74-f02c-409b-bd6d-62f74ec344e7","accessControl_ssim":["4bbcfaef-e245-46ea-b727-a8e56e54494b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Personality type and team building: using the Myers-Briggs type indicator to develop effective leadership teams"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:05:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:07:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d55303fd-05c5-4b51-803b-a8ea1e5c556b"],"hasLease_ssim":["063ba023-ff45-455e-a8e6-e5151f54d777"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Nancy Foltz","Robert Dale"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Bruce E Minett"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Myers-Briggs Type Indicator","Church group work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this doctoral project was to enhance teamwork among members of Tabernacle Baptist Church's pastoral team through insights gained from the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), which is designed to identify personality type preferences. Functional relevance is the use of objective relevance to help listeners connect God's Word with their lives. To communicate relevantly, preachers must: a) comprehend the hermeneutical issues associated with connecting biblical truth with modern life, b) understand the listeners' milieu, c) apply objective and functional relevance techniques, and d) develop systems of intentional feedback.
