The home is a Church of God Cleveland, Tennesee institution established around 1921, originally for the purpose of caring, training, and educating orphans to be Christians and sensible members of society. The program functioned from a Christian, parenting perspective; however, the Home operated with a staff of house parents who were loving but professionally untrained. The need to develop a professionally trained house parent staff was deduced from the challenges brought on by the increased problems presented by the late twentieth and early twenty-first century child, as well as from the lack of a coherent on-site training program. The strategic point of meeting the modern needs of the children is to improve parenting skills in house parents. This is a paradigm shift from the children to the house parents as they carry out the mission of the Home. The new program establishes two stages: 1. The hiring and training of new house parents; 2. The on-going training program with the core based on the Common Sense Parenting program from Boys Town. The new professional training program is in its third year. Generally, many house parents now think of themselves as professionals. There is an improvement in the children's behavior and some children see their house parent calmer as they confront a crisis."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130281225224192,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:06.542Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:52:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"85f405ad-5ab7-4b3f-bb32-745620702567","accessControl_ssim":["42462af6-9ba3-44c9-a015-7a36156fd9fd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a plan of healthy church growth for First Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:04:46Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["08f9b61e-a0c0-426c-a9a2-cc1f9b16160f"],"hasLease_ssim":["9fbd15d5-4387-4a82-88c1-56bf284fee17"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles Harvey"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James R Williamson"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church growth","First Baptist Church (Decatur, Ga)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["First Baptist Church of Decatur, Georgia, is an historic church located in the Atlanta area. The study deals with the question of relevance as the foundational question of homiletics preceding the question of application or sermon's effectiveness. Biblical relevance, according to the thesis of this project, is rooted in the character of God's word rather than the changing preference of the listeners. A primary premise of the work is the assertion that the question of biblical relevance commences with the biblical text. Consequently, the clues that the essential aspects of biblical relevance must be found within the biblical corpus. Analysis of the God's communication with people in the Bible yields two substantive conditions of relevance. The first condition of relevance is that the biblical content, expressing a biblical idea, asserts an imperative aimed at the volition calling it to a response in the context of our relationship with God. The second condition of relevance is that the biblical form, framing the idea, gives it coherence aimed at the human cognition with the goal of making the idea intelligible to the listener. These two conditions are both necessary and jointly sufficient conditions of biblical relevance in preaching. The thesis begins with the theological analysis of the dominant genres of the Old Testament and the New Testament seeking to extract the two necessary conditions of relevance. The theological study is followed by a historical/ philosophical analysis of the changing views of biblical relevance in transition form Modernity to Postmodernity. The last chapter of the thesis seeks to furnish a skeleton for the creation of biblical, relevant sermons."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132421243011072,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:03:07.422Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:10Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:53:44Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"36f668ec-5a29-4f43-b522-f0901a6c22e9","accessControl_ssim":["ab27f979-5cb7-4c2e-802d-b53f1905ec03"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["This is my church: the role of preaching in helping youth to discover the church as a legitimate partner in their faith journey"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:55:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:43:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5e51fed0-9e3d-461b-9b72-72f9265bbe97"],"hasLease_ssim":["d8919a72-040f-4192-a42a-6e5da6511216"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Donald M Steele"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Terry V Hastings"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with youth","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The author's claim is that preaching is an effective means of engaging young people in their faith journey. The project concludes with the role of vision and a shared, clearly articulated mission for a renewed church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131240895610880,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:44:21.755Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:46:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1904bfdd-b2a4-4293-b99d-f74327615420","accessControl_ssim":["e64ff639-247a-45f4-a6f3-988fef8ed85b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving from houseguest to family member: glimmers of transformation through mission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["0f72a8d8-6783-4848-9f6a-825db9ca9b1c"],"hasLease_ssim":["e36c98cf-f6d9-4b6e-90c8-01889e4dc70e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Charles L Campbell"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Janet Nolting Carter"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Service (Theology)","Intercultural communication","Counterculture"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Many churches have become 'places where' things happen. This tool will address numerous areas of leadership character and competencies; however, of particular concern is the training of leaders to think, learn, and function systematically, acknowledging the complexity of the church as a living organization as it functions in turbulent times. All too often leaders merely emulate the leadership styles and techniques of the marketplace or corporate culture. This project will make a careful study of a biblical theology of the church and of leadership and compare it with the growing data on systems theory and organizational learning theory. This project will explore the use of systems theory as a means of understanding organizational design with the view to aiding leaders in their leadership function. A distinct analysis will be made of Peter Senge's model of systems thinking. Senge's approach will then be used as a grid from which to build a leadership development model."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130957979320320,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:39:51.945Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"685be416-c113-4116-b3fb-f8ad4dcb26b4","accessControl_ssim":["ef95e33e-6285-4009-8f12-8de16155e56f"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["New neighbors: Proverbs shapes community amid an emerging congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T08:54:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:11:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fbface18-2bdf-4c93-8887-13d9bddce145"],"hasLease_ssim":["77df5df0-b23e-48a7-aa0d-d9cbf5c9615c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Christine Roy Yoder"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ashley M Cook"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community--Case studies"],"publisher_tesim":["Columbia Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Bible.
