The author applied the principles of T-NET to the First Evangelical Free Church of La Crosse, Wisconsin.  The result was the implementation of an assimilation strategy, the development of Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs), the increase of small groups designed for specific levels of maturity, and the commitment to leadership training. The author's theory is that there is a way to combine teaching and narrative sermon forms so as to teach, while creating a context to enhance retention of learning. This was explored through sermons which attempted to blend the two styles, and evaluated through surveys conducted before and after the sermons. To test the validity of this thesis, I preached sermons on hope before different audiences gathered to celebrate different occasions. Some of the people were teary-eyed, a few felt energized, and several faces were radiant--responses indicating that a redemptive transformation took place in peoples' lives. The author assumes that the dynamics inherent in narrative preaching is instrumental in bringing about these responses that can generate hope. The research method employed was a qualitative examination that primarily utilized the focus group method.  The author identified four summary lessons from the research.  There is a considerable need among Southern Baptist churches in Illinois for clergy evaluation processes.  There are successful feedback models that look very different.  A lay-involved process is stronger because it engages the opinions of laity and encourages teamwork. In order to achieve this goal, the project: 1, reviewed its current mission statement, need statement, vision statement; 2, developed its core values to reflect its ministry; 3, developed its strategies to attract and assimilate the unchurched; 4, developed its programs to execute its plan. The goal of this project is to critically examine, define, and detail one of those new methods called 'Prescriptive Preaching' whose goal is to provide its listener with explicit and helpful actions, prescribed and exemplified in a specific biblical narrative, which empower and equip the listener to cope with a relevant life issue. This methodology is currently being successfully used in the preaching life of St. John's Congregational Church, a 1,300 member black church comprised mainly of this new generation of black churchgoers. Through reflection on the creation, delivery, and evaluation of eight project sermons, the integration of residency course work, and committed discussion on the same with St. John's members in a Parish Project Group this project seeks to discover and establish the guidelines, goals, theological, biblical, and homiletical foundations and exegesis, and preparatory process that informs the methodology of prescriptive preaching. Responses of 34 participants indicated that the provision of programs and activities were a major factor in influencing youth toward participation in the church.  A significant number of the participants felt wanted and needed in the Church.
