The practicum was conducted over a weekend, and a group of eight youth workers from the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church were invited to participate.  The project emphasized the value of mentoring in the equippng process.  The mentor relationship provides a forum for affirmation, supervision, modeling, instruction, guidance, correction, and encouragement. Women from the area of greater Trenton, New Jersey, between the ages of 25 and 39 who are not active in church are enlisted as a focus group.  The group format includes guided meditation, personal drawings of God images, and a survey to compare narrative information from women no longer active with that of women currently active in a United Methodist congregation.  The project does not establish a link.  Both focus groups express dissonance with the church's God images while maintaining continuous internal God-imaging. The project applied hermeneutical phenomenology strategy to data gathered from interviews with participants, identifying six hope themes: absolute, promise, inner-voice, well-spring, diminished-future, new-us. Using this church as a case study, the project calls for the Korean church to send missionaries throughout the world in order to contribute to world mission and evangelization and to fulfill the kingdom of God. This project proposes that the church has to become a reconciler in the context of continued struggles and conflicts, recovering leadership in the community by showing a new image of the church that is pursuing reconciliation.  The project reflects on the past and present of Korean immigrant churches in southern California and discusses the need to change their role in the future. The project presents a holistic model that is inclusive of the entire faith community, supported by historical, theological, and educational research. A confirmation inventory examines how this proposal would be received within church congregations. Evaluation demonstrates a strong desire to reform confirmation to include repeatable baptismal affirmation opportunities at every age.
