After developing a biblical theological framework for understanding normative patterns of discipleship in the Scriptures, the study reports on findings from semi-structured interviews with thirty participants recommended by their pastors and peers for their outstanding faith. All participants were forty years of age or younger, most of them were lifelong church members, and all were actively involved with large evangelical churches in the suburban South. Their spiritual formation involves church participation, but their self-reported focus centers on small, close-knit friendship groups, high engagement with Scripture and prayer, and caring for one another through suffering and sacrifice. Simply having hundreds of missionaries, being actively involved in witnessing, evangelism, and church planting, or maintaining a large mission’s budget does not necessarily make a church missional. In a missional church, every member understands God’s mission, recognizes their role as someone who is sent, and intentionally participates in God’s ongoing work by living out their faith with the purpose of reaching the lost.\r\n\r\nAnother important finding is the common belief that only ministers or those appointed by the church are responsible for missions. Many individuals who strive to live out their faith at home, at work, and in other settings still feel guilty for not fully obeying God’s command in the Great Commission because they have not gone to distant or remote places to preach the gospel. The New Testament concept of the priesthood of all believers is not well understood.\r\nThese challenges are likely present in many churches around the world, not just in Nigeria or Africa. Drawing on twenty years of experience in addiction treatment, the researcher examines how MCs facilitate transformation across multiple stages of recovery, helping individuals once deemed incurable develop a renewed identity as disciples of Jesus and\r\nintegrate into Christian communities and church life. The study addresses why many recovering individuals struggle to permanently abandon prior\r\naddictive behaviors, and explores the spiritual, communal, and psychosocial mechanisms that support lasting change. Guided by mixed-methods research, including qualitative interviews and quantitative measures, the study evaluates the impact of BMSC-based MCs on participants’ holistic recovery, participation in Christian communities and church, relationship with God, and commitment to discipleship. To be known requires respect and understanding of their communities’ pastoral needs and religious practices. Sadly, many leaders have a colonial mentality that foments stereotypes and even prejudice toward Hispanics. The only way to move beyond this mentality is to sincerely enter into relationships with Latino(a)s, and understand how they see themselves. This respectful understanding must begin with our Church leaders. Latino/as want to share their cultural and religious practices that connect them to their families and ancestors. Although the Hispanic Catholics play a vital role in the life of the Church, barriers to inclusion remain. Hispanic Catholics want to fully participate in the Church’s mission to serve the whole community. They are eager to share their gifts through collaborative service in their parishes.\r\n\r\nIn this thesis project I reveal Hispanic communities that are already present but not often seen. I introduce their religious practices to the larger community including church leaders. I focus on the religious practice called Adoración Nocturna Mexicana (Mexican Nocturnal Adoration). A practice where members of the Mexican Catholic communities spend the night in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar where, like all Catholics, they worship the true presence of Jesus Christ in the consecrated hosts reposited in the Tabernacle and exposed in the monstrance on the altar during nocturnal adoration vigil. The study shows how Hispanics have historically and are presently practicing nocturnal adoration as part of their popular religious practices. More importantly, I explore what drives them toward these religious practices. By listening to their stories, I have heard their heartfelt voices as they express their needs and desires, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. I also demonstrate how they emulate the Samaritan woman at the well (John: 4-42), and like her are moved to evangelization when they also come to the realization of being known and therefore loved by Christ. \r\n\r\nI delve into the pastoral, social, and theological dimensions of Hispanic popular Catholicism and devotional practices, referred to as Santo praxis and lo cotidiano (the everyday). \r\n\r\nThe goal is to demonstrate how popular religious devotion is forged in the historical struggles of people who are oppressed. I describe in detail the rituals promoted by Adoración Nocturna Mexicana. \r\n\r\nAnd finally, share a theological reflection of the study’s findings and a pastoral response related to the importance of intercultural competence for effective leadership and accompaniment of Hispanic communities.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["53c67891-28b0-4cc7-90c6-569a51b7443c"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["rmendez@student.ctu.edu"],"_version_":1854424409589153792,"timestamp":"2026-01-15T22:42:11.142Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5f27303b-7458-46e8-98d6-9d8dffa32cc9","accessControl_ssim":["e76e56f4-b3c2-4e57-a886-d29aed497de3"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["The preparation, production and evaluation of an orientation and training film for pastoral education supervisors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["26213831-eb40-4952-9eaa-efde6cad6815"],"hasLease_ssim":["7eebc083-c4b6-4ae8-b64a-1466d1c43e74"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1977"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project design for the dissertation included nine steps: (1) Sending questionnaires to the seminary directors of field education belonging to the Association for Theological Field Education. This produced data about field education supervisors, training of supervisors, and determined specifically what films, if any, were presently available for this purpose. (2) Conducting research at the Library of Congress regarding the availability of films on pastoral supervision. (3) Surveying Association for Clinical Pastoral Education members for possible audio-visual resources. (4) Making visitation to seminaries where significant pastoral supervisor training programs were in effect. This also included the audio taping of those training programs. (5) Taking information from the author’s own training and experience, the questionnaires, the visits, and preparing a script for an orientation and training film. (6) Shooting and editing a color video film on pastoral supervisors. (7) Showing the film to a group of persons who were, or would be, pastoral supervisors. (8) Receiving and evaluating feedback from the persons viewing the film by means of a questionnaire testing instrument. (9) Preparing a dissertation report describing all of the above steps and the results."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com","martins02@moravian.edu"],"_version_":1851872726976823296,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:44:16.971Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:12Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c7088bea-6944-4af7-bfe0-db1e5edd8b5b","accessControl_ssim":["62f948c9-df65-4c11-a24d-7722096c80b9"],"depositor_ssim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["martins02@moravian.edu"],"title_tesim":["Placement and deployment of minorities in the United Church of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:44:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ad4608c4-3ef2-40ea-aaa7-90044b406645"],"hasLease_ssim":["d751bc69-e042-4e36-8bbd-b634ef35de39"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1975"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min.
