There were two other groups of lay persons that either studied on their own, or did not study at all.  The study extended over an eight week period in an effort to determine how well persons who participated in the groups, who also contributed to the sermon preparation, understood the message and text that was used as the basis for the sermon. Dealing with juvenile delinquency is a major problem.  The program was set to serve 50-75 students.  Students were given tutorial help, recreational opportunities, cultural exposure, and counseling opportunities during the summer and after school in the spring and fall of 1988 and 1989.  The students, volunteers, and church members were surveyed to ascertain whether of not the project was successful. The STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) Program was used to raise the awareness and competence level of teenage mothers on parenting.  The church provided training, teachers, and the space for classes.  The community provided services to the teen mothers through the schools, government agencies, and the court systems. Through the survey and research method two types of questionnaires were formulated and developed. They were then sent to a randomly selected group of clergy to elicit information in the pastoral care ministry of the church. In a six year period of time, the Berean Baptist Church had replaced two ministers due to internal conflict.  In spite of church membership growth there appeared to be a need for leadership training.  Some members agreed to attend leadership development classes.
