Since then, changes in society, religion and the university itself have created a far different cultural setting for university congregations.  Through a survey of American Baptist university churches and case studies of two congregations, mission and identity in the university church are explored.  Churches studied exhibited a strong sense of identity, strong connections with the community, strong connections between faith and learning, 'spiritual balance,' and were reappropriating the church's tradition for the present day. This links campus and parish ministries in taking advantage of the model for community life, spiritual growth and service.  A model of this kind of nurturing ministry and analysis of its inherent Christian value forms the basis of this study.  The model is limited to ministry to and with students, not the total academic community.  It is a new plan of ministry that involves the local parish, campus ministry, student and local clergy.
