To determine the needs of the organization's students and prepare them for ministry, a questionnaire was designed and used as the principle source of research.  The project succeeded in determining the needs of the students in the organization. The author investigated the developmental theories of Erikson, Kohlberg, Gilligan, Fowler, Perry, and Parks.  The theological/biblical background focused on biblical stories, incarnational presence, personal narrative, human sexuality, prayer, creation-centered spirituality, and process, liberation, and feminist theologies.  As models of spiritual direction the author incorporated the work of Ignatius Loyola, Teresa of Avila, John of the Cross, Studzinski, Gratton, Fischer, and Kelsey. Models of psychotherapy and pastoral counseling included Jung, Rogers, Oden, and Jackson. Students have needs that can be met by the BSU director (campus minister) being involved on campus by teaching a class.  An orientation class was taught using ideas observed and researched by the director.  Class time consisted of lectures, guest speakers, questionnaires, class participation, games and a video. The result was that needs of the college students were discovered. Employing a process model of theological reflection, the project identifies three foundations for the campus minister-educator's articulated role: (1) the promoting of critical skills, (2) the development and sustaining of community, and (3) the promoting of imagination. From this study the leaders developed a college program involving each organization of the church.  The project made the leadership more aware of students' needs. The project recognized that the campus community can become the training ground for future leadership in the local church.  The theological foundation for the project was based upon God's gifting of individuals and their subsequent service in the body of Christ, taken from Ephesians 4:11-13. The project utilized a series of questions that enabled the student leaders to evaluate themselves, their group, and their peers in the areas of task accomplishment and personal development.  Student leaders entered into a covenant relationship with the project director to accomplish this task and to develop personally.  Measuring instruments, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and FIRO-B, were used to provide a profile of each individual involved in the project. Various evaluations concluded the 18-month project that took place at the University of Washington in Seattle.
