The Orthodox tradition of iconography can nurture a renewal of life in Jesus Christ expressed as fruits of the Spirit. The author studied four groups of participants in three churches to determine the impact of the study of iconology, and of embroidering an icon, on participant spiritual transformation. The author explains the use of icons in liturgy, and as effective tools in religious spirituality and mystical experience. The icon Mater Ecclesia - Mother Church, portrays Mary-Theotokos stepping down from the Cross.
