As a minister, he tells the story of a church-community coalition that he helped to organize to combat these problems.  The thesis of this project is to show how this group, called Hanover United, made a difference against racism and violence, especially in promoting positive community images of the values of equality, diversity, and nonviolence. This was a cooperative effort in attempt to locate any particular people groups not currently reached by the participating congregations. Through official census material accessed by computer and survey questionnaires of church households vital demographic variables or 'factors that divide' were examined in both the community and the congregations. Each congregation was able to examine their own uniqueness in comparison to the other congregations and in comparison to the community profile. This church developed a social outreach ministry that called for auxilaries of the church to be assigned to a social agency or not-for-profit community outreach to provide stewardship of time, talent, and/or money.  The African American tradition of kinship inspired this study. Through comparing life-issues identified by church members with those identified by members of the community who called the police for help, the author exposed issues the preacher would be unaware of unless his or her contact goes beyond the church. Incarnational witness was defined as a demonstration of the person and power of Jesus Christ through the personalities, actions, and words of believers in the context of the felt and real needs of unbelievers. Project participants identified needs in the community through demographic analysis, generalized characteristics, and personal interviews with community members.  As a result of this study participants crafted a needs-based and resource-related strategy.  This strategy was refined by dialogue with the church body. The process of training began with the selection of ten key women involved in mission education at their churches.  Specific training with co-church members was provided for the five women chosen to continue in the project.  The women were encouraged to see that ministry through activities on property and the building of relationships for evangelism was the entry point, but the beginning of on-site congregations was the goal.  Mission-minded women are interested in the needs of multihousing communities and are willing to be trained, but need a structure within which to work, and are hesitant to begin congregationalizing efforts without much encouragement and support from their church leaders.
