A great deal of data were gathered through a demographics survey, a spiritual gifts inventory, sermons regarding the importance of Mission and Vision Statements, and congregational meetings. Working within a theology of Love, Jesus' ideals for vision, and United Church of Christ polity. The team produces a theologically sound, biblically based mission statement and a vision statement containing 10 realistic, achievable five-year objectives. Research involves the gathering of local church history, social information, and demographics.  A study series on the nature of the church and its mission, developed and implemented by the pastor, is presented to a group of laity. At a retreat the laity give formation to the statement, which receives congregational adoption.  Questionnaires help analyze the laity's beliefs about the nature of the church and its mission.  Evaluations appraise the project's content and process and the leader's performance.
