Biblical wisdom literature also provides guidance in navigating life situations (Roland Murphy, James Crenshaw).  The current study hypothesizes that high emotional intelligence will assist clergy in navigating critical leadership situations.  To test this hypothesis, twenty-six pastors were administered the BarOn Emotional Quotient Inventory.  A group profile was generated, and some findings were significant.  Results have implications for hiring, evaluating, and training pastors. The observers rated their pastors fairly highly, except for a significantly lower rating on their 'challenging the process.' These congregations were forty percent smaller that the average congregation in the United States.
