The report describes the setting, First United Methodist Church of Champaign, Il, and gives the church's reasons for considering a computer.  The report tells of the decision to install a computer, training in its use, the gathering and loading of data, problems encountered, and the contribution which the computer has made to church administration.  The experience is compared with that of 19 other large churches using computers. The Presbytery of Lake Michigan tested applications of computer support for selected facets of its administrative and managerial functions.  These applications included word processing, financial management, and the development of personnel files and mailing lists. Part II is a handbook to help individuals and/or congregations assess the possibility of microcomputers being used as a tool for ministry. A qualitative pro-active research methodology was used involving a case study design to develop a comprehensive narrative based on pre-test and post-test surveys, interviews, quantitative demographic data, and field notes.  Fourteen members of the congregation were involved, eight registered modest improvements in personal computer skills, two reported substantial increases, and four dropped the training.
