Peacemaking in the church is an unavoidable call for pastors and church members. They need to put into practice biblical, redemptive ways for peacebuilding as they respond to conflict. The Christian peacemaking approach requires spiritual discernment. The author presented such tools as biblical texts on conflict transformation like Acts 15 and 1 Corinthians 1, narrative theology and narrative leadership in order to claim the biblical faith in Jesus, the Crucified and the Mediator. These are utilized by sorting out 'competing stories' against the Christian narrative that conflicting situations often cause. In favor of the conflict transformation theory and practice, the author presented mediation processes such as the Circle Process that work well in the field of conflict transformation. Also the author stressed the practice of liturgical leadership among Christian mediators or peacemaking pastors and church members."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718763755470848,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:39:21.748Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5c63f862-def4-4631-9e1e-e441fc7ce73e","accessControl_ssim":["a907fd05-8007-4730-8ae2-7536fc5a7977"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The evangelical pastor as agent of redemptive and collaborative change in a mainline church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:50:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1d932a7b-c3c1-4bb3-97c3-a6b6e75a2715"],"hasLease_ssim":["4371120c-e473-4977-8741-cda0da6efb4e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Macchia"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Randall J Forester"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict","Congregations, Protestant"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religions","Congregations","St Paul's Community Church (Chicora, Pa)","Federated churches","St Paul's Congregational Church (Rural Valley, Pa)","United Church of Christ","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis focuses on how the pastor aligns a congregation with the will of God by coming alongside them and reminding them of their story and place within God's plan. The case study will focus on St. Paul's Community Church (Chicora, PA), and the disconnect between the church's missional focus vis-à-vis its representative denomination. Using a narrative methodology, there will be a comparison of the experience of St. Paul's Community Church with St. Paul's Congregational Church (Rural Valley, PA), both of which have a shared historic affiliation with the United Church of Christ and ethnic, geographic, and sociological similarities. Together with a look at the local church's ecclesiological context, a biblical view of the Spirit's creative work in individual lives, and a historical view of conflict in St. Paul's Community Church, there will be a description of the forces that created an outcome that could only be created by the people and pastor working in a way that fit the context. In order to accomplish this goal, two assumptions regarding forgiveness are made: (1) A discussion of forgiveness must first be grounded in the nature and character of God; and (2) Forgiveness must be understood as a relational issue where sin has caused harm. To understand these two components of forgiveness, a careful study of Genesis 1-4 is undertaken. Agape love from offended to offender establishes the base of forgiveness, and forgiveness must address the dynamics of sin expressed in shame, power, self-righteousness, and rage. These four issues are applicable to both the embezzler and the post-embezzled church. In order to foster forgiveness in the embezzled church, the embezzler must undergo some kind of transformation. Shame should be turned into confession, power into humility, self-righteousness into repentance, and rage into repair."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["910240dd-6bfb-49cb-ab06-1b8de036aac8"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132298691739648,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:01:10.547Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:38:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:03:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7397fbc2-6e4a-43c6-9c41-5c42e1519683","accessControl_ssim":["94a82db7-4598-49d8-b97d-529863700a4c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching to develop understanding of pastoral responsibility for congregational health"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:38:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:31:01Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["6f33621c-6265-48fc-ab4b-12f072e09c77"],"hasLease_ssim":["241b2015-395f-48eb-8eac-8e64a898d1e8"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Terry Thomas","Ricky A Woods"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joseph D Turner"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary (Dayton, OH)"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Congregations","Clergy--Office","Baptists","Authority--Religious aspects","Faith Vision Baptist Church (Miami, Fla)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project was designed to address the leadership needs of the membership of Faith Vision Baptist Church of Miami, Florida. The writer intended to identify and examine the reasons for church instability. It was the writer's assumption that churches are stabilized when the question of authority is settled and high turnover rates are curtailed. Therefore, a clear understanding of the pastoral role and responsibility are central to congregational health and stability. The design to test this hypothesis consisted of sermons, interviews, and pre test and post test surveys, which resulted in attitude change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128657908989952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:03:18.427Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:59:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"860b6cb4-3156-45cc-9e0e-a6e4425944cb","accessControl_ssim":["7c174d8e-0c96-45ff-b216-f2a490dd1c11"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["When the pastor leaves: a manual for presbytery intervention during the early interim period"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:28:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:04:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5de0f219-98da-4a06-8497-cba4c6db1638"],"hasLease_ssim":["3cf87862-f70f-4d5a-8fcb-559efa61c2f7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Luis R Rivera"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Daniel M Saperstein"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["McCormick Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Presbyteries","Congregations","Pastoral psychology","Presbyterian Church","Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)","Interim clergy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The 'early interim' period between the departure of a pastor and the arrival of an interim minister is characterized by elevated congregational anxiety, individual and collective grief, and greater reliance on denominational leaders. The focus of the study is how the congregation moved from being a divided and conflicted community to a community that is growing and vital. The perspective that is taken in this study is a systems approach that sees the church as much more than the sum of its parts and examines how various systems came together to promote health or dysfunction. This case study revealed that church revitalization is complex dynamic that requires more than a programmatic approach. Findings supported in this study are: 1) Understanding the history of both congregation and leadership is important for church health. 2) The mix of positive and negative influences that shape a congregation and its leadership and their interplay need to be understood in any process of health and revitalization. 3) The process of moving toward health is more important than the program used. 4) Before a congregation or pastor can become healthy it is imperative that both understand their past and the factors that both helped and hindered their development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135532569329664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:34.614Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":31,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
