A lack of space limits the number of student seats available, while tuition costs restrict access to families able to afford sky-high rates. Meanwhile, childcare teachers are paid low salaries for their services, and children living in poverty fall farther and farther behind. Such a challenge threatens not only a child’s livelihood, but also the congregation’s vision “that all may know God’s love.” This project will examine how the principles of adaptive leadership might reframe the congregation’s missiological understanding and practices via the work of education. The researcher analyzed current practices in building mission identity through adult faith formation in school communities. Several common strategies are identified as effective and suggestions are made to further incorporate a school’s mission into the adult community. A survey was shared with the schools in the Archdiocese asking teachers, administrators, and staff members to reflect on their experiences of mission integration and formation. Following this, focus groups were used to elaborate on the strategies and ideas raised in the survey. From Islam’s inception, female scholars have played a crucial role in nurturing women’s religious identity and spiritual connection. However, today in the American Muslim community, the presence of female scholars and spiritual guides remains largely absent in most local communities, limiting opportunities for women to access religious mentorship and leadership. By examining two historical female scholarly archetypes—their early lives, teaching methods, and approaches to spiritual modeling—this analysis identifies the factors that granted them religious authority while also exploring the diversity in their educational, cultural, and social strategies to enhance religious connectedness among women and their communities. The study is underpinned by the framework of Spiritual Modeling by Doug Osman and Carl Thoresen, along with Syed Attas’s Islamic Education model, which exemplify the necessity of interpersonal relationships between teachers and students, fostering women’s spiritual growth through modeling. By analyzing historical practices, this research addresses these contemporary realities of female religious authority. The study concludes with recommendations for institutions to better engage and support local female scholars and learned women, ultimately aiming to strengthen women’s spiritual identity and communal belonging. The scholars S.N. al-Attas, Wael Hallaq and Umar Farouq Abd-Allah have answered this question by stating that the principal essence of Islam is its ethico-moral system, which informs humanity of its identity as God’s moral subjects by instilling within them the prophetic ethic. Yet Islam’s identity formation, which is meant to protect the human fitra, i.e. the primordial human state, and is a foundation of its educational paradigm and ethical philosophy, is interrupted by the rise of the modern nation state through its refashioning of the human self and its use of secularism as a medium to make citizenship the primary principle of identity.1 This article contends that due to the traumatic social and psychological effects of the modern nation state and colonialism upon the Muslim collective consciousness and religious identity, restoration of Islamic education must take place through holistic means. Achieving the ethical aims of Islamic education must come through reclaiming the Islamic identity, rerooting its pedagogy in the Qur’anic worldview, reviving traditional spiritual orthopraxy and utilizing relevant psychological research to integrate contemporary psychological models aimed at identity development and healing. Restructuring Islamic curriculums ought to be a holistic enterprise that seeks to reformulate an “alchemy of happiness”2 that heals, edifies and informs the Muslim psyche - imbuing it with the traditional Islamic identity in a way that is therapeutic, relevant and reinvigorating."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/downloads/040e2605-0236-4023-82f1-394715dfbf94?file=thumbnail","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-approving","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-depositing","admin_set/default-one_step_mediated_deposit-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_ids_ssim":["040e2605-0236-4023-82f1-394715dfbf94"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Master's Theses"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["a73e1c05-49cd-4a4b-93e7-8fd66694bdf5"],"file_set_ids_ssim":["040e2605-0236-4023-82f1-394715dfbf94"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Theses and Dissertations"],"account_cname_tesim":["ctschicago.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"read_access_person_ssim":["yasmine.abou-el-kheir@ctschicago.edu"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"_version_":1836642747210006528,"timestamp":"2025-07-03T16:10:16.428Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
