With the percentage of Americans claiming no religious identity increasing from 15.0% in 2008 to 19.3% in 2012, there is a decline in ecclesiastical engagement amongst young adults, particularly Generation Z. SVUP’s ongoing increase in young adults amongst its membership sets the congregation apart. This project uncovers the role intergenerational Christian fellowship plays in young adults' ongoing faith development. This project uses the language of mothering in light of young adults functioning, in North American middle and upper class, as adolescents still seeking the maternal warmth provided by the church in furthering their Christian development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CeGhGzzJByJueRop5cqIiho9dQuN0toJY5bbHeko4Xg/edit?usp=sharing"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127519523504128,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:45:12.778Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:51Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:49:55Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"01a48995-9444-4c3d-bd27-832bdb2cb15a","accessControl_ssim":["37b73b72-0e7a-49f0-b649-934e53ff4ebd"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An invitation to the margins : re-imagining pastoral ministry for women clergy in the Church of God of Prophecy Mexico"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:51:50Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fbf7f6ea-4341-4298-9cfb-3f0299eb36ff"],"hasLease_ssim":["d2f4d7a7-9d12-41b4-a762-5032252232a3"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Alvin Padilla"],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Mexico"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. An invitation to the margins is an attempt to provide a more authentic Pentecostal theology and praxis of pastoral ministry that is reflective of female clergy and their experiences. This project relies on the feminist-pneumatological approach of Lisa P. Stephenson and asks whether a pneumatological model of pastoral ministry that incorporates elements of mujerista and liberation theology can be a viable option for women clergy. In order to answer this question, a focus group of female ministers in the Church of God of Prophecy in Mexico were exposed to the model laid out in this project in the hope of forming a coalition of female clergy where women can be nurtured, mentored, and guided as they navigate the challenges and joys of the pastorate. An invitation to the margins is a way to re-imagine pastoral ministry in ways that are more faithful to and discerning of where the Spirit is moving in Mexico."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://repository.westernsem.edu/xmlui/handle/1866/10243"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135368467185664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:49:58.113Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:39:16Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:26:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"6e39dec2-3dde-4bb3-9616-6cd06a1e247b","accessControl_ssim":["d4e9e63a-cc55-45e7-8f93-ff3dbc856911"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Lay leadership development based on a theology of shared power"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:39:13Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:22:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4ac82828-2959-4f00-b3a1-1b2e926fe0cf"],"hasLease_ssim":["e19e947a-7376-45a9-8403-f2291d766d87"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Lovett H Weems"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Such a study will help them be more sensitive to gender inequalities in the text, biblical interpretation, and the power differential that is still present in the 21st century. Students will see the value of an open exploration of the text and become more adept in applying what they have learned to other instances of inequalities in the world. They will gain confidence to engage in conversation with their peers as well as experts in the field of biblical studies."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718507442601984,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:35:17.309Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:25:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:49:46Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"255fec8d-78f3-4756-adb1-35b63d282b74","accessControl_ssim":["b8f9a589-9f2c-45e2-aae5-630805809f4a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Women, genderqueer, our bodies and spirit: a theological construction on embodiment and sexuality."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:25:24Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:14:00Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["de810f7f-035f-47c4-ac79-eaad5e8a2535"],"hasLease_ssim":["eec0b677-ad49-4874-84f7-2f04e7afdca0"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"advisor_tesim":["Jean Morris Trumbauer"],"year_tesim":["2013"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rebecca Mary Voelkel"],"keyword_tesim":["Feminist theology"],"publisher_tesim":["United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities"],"subject_tesim":["Queer theology","Feminism","Gender identity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Women's and genderqueer bodies, lives and voices are often ignored, manipulated and violated. Second, it employs a matrix for theological reflection, engaging the positive, negative, creative, and transformative aspects of embodiment and sexuality in order to create a liberative, eschatological vision. This study focuses on the perspectives on women in the church context that devalue women as imperfect and inferior beings in relationship with others. It addresses the problematic situation of gender relations in the Korean church context with a critical analysis, and shows how cultural and social norms concerning women are deeply embedded in the Korean church context. It also reveals how the problematic situation has been reinforced by its association with, and acceptance of, fundamentalist theology. This study draws on transformative learning theory as a way of fashioning a new educational model for Korean women in the church. Even though the educational theory of transformative education has been developed and applied in various educational contexts, it has rarely been discussed in a faith-based context. This project shows how it is possible to utilize transformative education theory in a faith-based context, through a case study with a class at a Bible institute. This study also draws upon narrative pedagogy as a practical principle to create a religious educational model for Korean women in the church context. Theological discussion centered on Minjung theology particularly, with the notion of shin-myung, is important in order to contextualize the narrative framework in the Korean context. As a powerful tool for promoting perspective transformations in the church, reading the sacred story, the Bible, is discussed with feminist and post-colonial perspectives. Integrating these theoretical discussions, the religious education model for Korean women is grounded on the group experiences with Korean women in two different settings, church and school. This model can initiate perspective transformation, not only in the women themselves but also in others. The educational experiences in the women's group provide possibilities and hopes for bringing meaningful changes in Korean women's context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132115963740160,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:58:16.284Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:59:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cd641ba7-a675-4548-8e7a-7134f7886abd","accessControl_ssim":["906d856c-2d16-4d14-a187-fbd9a230067b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Retelling the story of Shim Cheong: revisiting the concept of sacrifice and theology of the cross"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:29:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:41Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["da7027a4-0b74-49e4-8b53-e591e14e1679"],"hasLease_ssim":["ddc9f76a-167f-40f8-914d-fc6a1682df79"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Kathleen J Greider"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Soomee Kim"],"keyword_tesim":["Feminist theology"],"publisher_tesim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Theology of the cross","Self-realization","Folklore, Korean","Narrative theology","Theology","Self-sacrifice","Obedience"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project attempts to formulate a valid narrative theology that serves the needs of Korean-American women. Because stories and storytelling are integral parts of our psychology, narrative theology offers a particularly powerful way of illustrating and teaching important Christian doctrine. It is important to note that stories should never be summarized or reduced to a 'core meaning' when used for teaching or pastoral care and counseling, as this runs the risk of allowing the storyteller's own views and prejudices to overpower the deeper meaning of the story itself. For this reason, all narrative theology should be based on the unabridged, unadulterated story in its purest form. Theologies of the cross, by emphasizing the suffering and death of Jesus, run the risk of condoning abusive behavior and portray Jesus Christ as a figure who intentionally seeks suffering and death as part of the act of redemption, minimizing the responsibility of the repressive society that demanded his death. By emphasizing obedience to the Lord, these theologies can serve to maintain an oppressive status quo at the cost of innocent life. The project argues that a more healthy theology can be formulated based on the psychoanalytical theory of individuation, as formulated by Carl G. Jung. Bu using the example of 'The Story of Shim Cheong,' the dissertation shows how traditional, life-affirming tales can be distorted to serve the ends of a repressive patriarchal society. Sacrifice is not something we can demand a person to offer solely for the benefit of others. A true sacrifice can only come from someone who has reached the goal of individuation. It must be motivated by love and always serves to strengthen and enrich the giver. In that light, a new definition of sacrifice is formulated."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132170484449280,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:59:08.279Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":31,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
