United Methodist worship was studied in classes held with the pastors and laity of Gompa District followed with evaluations. Other venues included Sunday School classes, Bible studies, focus groups and interviews. The research conclusion: the Holy Spirit's leadership in worship, laity's active role in worship, Liberians worshipping God through their cultural garment, and worship expressed in the local language equals worship that meets members' needs."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717404555608064,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:45.514Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:06:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:11:05Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"02185603-43aa-4e47-aa5d-fc047c778104","accessControl_ssim":["94362fb5-8f16-4daf-b513-60f978340cce"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Foundation for the Africanization of the United Methodist Church in Liberia"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T06:06:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:10:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["2fbdb1b7-6d58-4427-946b-4ed09e1eb1ed"],"hasLease_ssim":["7ffe25c7-8e10-4f68-916b-d629e0e034fe"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Josiah U Young"],"year_tesim":["1997"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. In informal discussions and workshops church members grapple with use of drums, sasa, and African robes by choirs and clergy; incorporation of traditional values of initiation from Sande and Poro societies in the sacrament of baptism; and use of cassava bread and palm wine as elements of the Lord's supper. They conclude that Africanization will provide greater opportunity for growth and development of the church, but use of cassava bread and palm wine will require further study."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716985847676928,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:11:06.203Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:49:53Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:10:59Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"01bbc1f9-97a9-4096-a6b8-67754ca29726","accessControl_ssim":["a24af0c0-4d32-4712-8fa8-c0f78000ec18"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Sankofa Yenkyi: towards indigenization of the Methodist Church Ghana"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T19:49:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:09:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a1f4a172-37a8-448e-b700-9e348d256d99"],"hasLease_ssim":["2d5435c6-4e7a-4ada-8c6d-6cddbd61d715"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Josiah U Young"],"year_tesim":["2000"],"location_tesim":["Ghana"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Today, over three decades later, she continues to follow the British-Western cultural patterns in theology and worship. African theological beliefs and cultural practices are still foreign to her church. As a result, members practice their traditional beliefs outside of the church and Western cultural norms in the church. This is a problem the church has not been able to address. This paper will attempt to highlight some of the African practices, examine their theological relevance, and evaluate them. I will examine why the church is still pro-Western after nearly 40 years of autonomy, and make recommendations as to why she should focus on her traditional concepts in the new millennium to influence her changing them, and or incorporating them in her worship, practices, and beliefs."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716979414663168,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:11:00.068Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
