Through utilization of the practical theology method and qualitative research methods, the author correlated the Christian tradition, theological scholarship, the lived experiences of the people, and his experience in ministry, and proposed a liturgical inculturation of the eucharistic celebration. This project attempts to shift that emphasis by drawing on indigenous Hawaiian spirituality, Buddhism, and Christianity to construct a worship experience that is both spiritually and culturally relevant to the local people of Hawai'i. Process-relational theology serves as the foundation or basis under-girding the worship experience. The methodology used combines Participatory Action Research (PAR) method and praxis-reflection. The conclusion is that process-relational theology offers room for dialogue across differing cultures, and there can be ways to worship together as an interfaith community post-9/11 in a sustained, meaningful manner."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132023431102464,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:56:48.039Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:14:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:30:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2eba4f6d-e056-4fe2-9abe-0d469802dea4","accessControl_ssim":["9351f937-bf4c-4806-8cc5-6da50836e5eb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Re-constructing Biblical worship for postmodern times"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:14:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:29:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9b6418dc-79b8-45d2-95c8-1a164fe3c0fd"],"hasLease_ssim":["b6678707-935e-47fc-bed0-06a0cc1a2033"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gary A Parrett"],"year_tesim":["2003"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jeffry B Iskra"],"keyword_tesim":["Indigenization of worship"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Christianity and culture","Postmodernism"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The primary concern of this study is the content of American worship services and the appropriate correlation with the present culture. The Church should search for the same position that Jesus embraced -- live in the tension of being in the world, but not of the world. What would a worship model, maintaining this tension, look like? This thesis begins by exploring the fundamental teachings that are forever necessary to Christian worship. The Church's worship must remain thoroughly biblical with Jesus being the center, no matter what cultural setting. This must form the content of worship. Postmodernism contains some values that are in direct conflict with Christianity, and the Church must never compromise on its beliefs. Other postmodern values, such as the desire for community and the search for spiritual meaning provide the Church a great opportunity to express authentic Christianity and influence many. The cultural values help shape the style and the relevance of worship. This thesis examines four worship services from churches that are attempting to incarnate Christianity in a postmoden setting."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130392693047297,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:30:52.846Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:11:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:31:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"17edd085-76b0-4d6c-8dd1-623b04e9cf15","accessControl_ssim":["d0dcba2e-c02a-4674-b22c-caf9367d1aa3"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Worship as an expression of cultural and communal identity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T07:11:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:50:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["873db6b8-94e6-48be-9aab-abe98373030b"],"hasLease_ssim":["67f8e667-873c-4fd3-ac65-439333d8510a"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Martha A Robbins","Teresa Lockhart Stricklen"],"year_tesim":["2002"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Winston F Layne"],"keyword_tesim":["Indigenization of worship"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["St James Parish Church (Holetown, Barbados)","Catechetics--Anglican Communion","Lord's Supper--Anglican Communion"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to prepare a catechetical study on the fundamental principles of Christian worship and the structure of the Eucharist in order to allow participants of make a critical study of the Eucharistic rite at St. James' Church, Barbados and to develop a dynamic equivalent.
