Using focus groups and theological reflection, the project explores these connections while using Matthew's boat stories to illustrate characteristics of engaged ministry. The project tested that in making these connections, a congregation became more aware of the stories of the 'other' by connecting with the stories of people, enabling a willingness to become more involved with engaged ministry. However, church should be able to play a role as the field of unity and not of conflict. In order for this to happen, transition of how you and I perceive each other should first take place. Just as Christ took the form of a man, we need courage of the incarnation to be humble before we expect anyone else to be. Also, rather than indiscreetly misunderstanding the intention of others or judging them with a preconceived notion, we need determination to see them as individuals different from me. The beginning point of the study is the psychological and spiritual suffering of the alienated psyche in the archetypal wasteland, a painful condition in which the individual feels separated and alienated from his or her own unconscious depths, from other people in human community, and from a seemingly destructive and unavailable God.  This archetypal experience is viewed as the a priori condition for the healing of psyche and soul, a transformation which occurs through the establishment of a redeeming link with an infinite source of wisdom, guidance and blessing called, variously, the self-archetype or the greater personality in psychological language, or the mysterium tremendum or wholly other in theological language.
