Using excerpts from their sermons and interviews with the two men the author explored the unique ways in which they use the best of current literature and theology as well as life itself to engage their listeners in an existential encounter with the message of the gospel. After thoroughly researching both the doctrine and current preaching methodologies, the author preached a series of three narrative sermons on the doctrine of predestination. Afterwards, a select group was surveyed to determine whether the preacher's objectives were achieved. A growing dissatisfaction with present Protestant preaching indicates a need to pursue a style of preaching with greater use of story telling, imagination, narrative and metaphor.  Six doctrinal sermons which include rabbinic material and teaching style are field tested for their acceptability by church members.
