The premise is that empathy, as presented by the psychoanalytic school of self-psychology is a caring and compassionate way for a pastor to be in relationship with his or her ministry setting and models the essence of the gospel message. The leader used the socratic (open-ended questioning) method to enable participants to expand their awareness of the power of Scripture in their personal lives. A process was provided for daily prayer and meditation between sessions.  Sessions included meditation, writing in a journal, responding to questions, dialogue in small groups and becoming biblical characters.  Most participants found the model helpful in deepening their awareness of and relationship with others, including God. The context of this project is the psychology of Carl Jung and the spirituality of John of the Cross.  Their perspectives are utilized in formulating and implementing a psychospiritual model of adult development.  The model challenges our story and guides us on the human journey. The model can be adapted to various areas of ministry. This project highlights the model's usefulness for pastoral counseling.  The qualitative study provided some initial insights that are tentative and inconclusive. It takes a symbolic approach to Christian theology.  Its three parts are: the feminine as mode of being; the feminine as archetype; and the feminine in religious experience.
