Southern New England Conference"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project is an investigation into some of the factors involved in the decision to leave the parish ministry by some members of the Southern New England Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The study was limited to those who had spent a minimum of five years in the parish after becoming ordained.  An attempt was made to look at roles, family dynamics, and relationships with the system of the denomination.  All subjects were mailed questionnaires, and a portion of the subjects were interviewed. Findings include information on who these people are, how they viewed their pastoral work while in it, the pressures and processes of leaving it, and how they experience life with the pastorate in their past and a new career before them.  The survey shows that, according to overall mean and rank, the primary stress in ministry and, according to higher values only, the major reason for the respondents leaving the pastorate is church conflict. The ex-pastor experienced role conflict and, while his exodus was multi-determined, he sought for consistency between his individual values and his occupation.
