The author conducts interview testing to discover if attitude shifts occur as a result of the subcommittee's work.  He surveys 62 congregations about their confirmation practices. The subjects of the study were nine sisters who participated in intensive interviews, 45 sisters who responded to an anonymous questionnaire distributed to a random sample of one hundred, and one sister who was in therapy for nearly one year.  The findings provide information about the barriers Catholic women religious face in their ministry toward women who have had an abortion.  Attention is given to some of the areas of conflict that may widen the gap between the service which Catholic women religious feel mandated to provide and the actual care received by women who have had an abortion. The study was limited to those who had spent a minimum of five years in the parish after becoming ordained.  An attempt was made to look at roles, family dynamics, and relationships with the system of the denomination.  All subjects were mailed questionnaires, and a portion of the subjects were interviewed.
