Participants took a quantitative pre-test assessing their level of spiritual strength before receiving training and experience in eight sessions.  Following the training, they took the quantitative post-test, which included qualitative questions.  The project was successful. Participants developed better understanding about the relationship between spiritual vitality, deep wounds, and formational prayer. The analysis used to determine project impact was obtained from the post and delayed tests responses of the participants.  Results indicated that all nine participants had beneficial experiences. Such prayer, defined as 'meditative prayer', places an emphasis on waiting for God.  Meditative prayer underlines the need for quiet preparation as part of praying.  A six-week Lenten series of sermons, workshops and model meditative prayers provide a broad approach to an entire congregation.  The project report contains scriptural and theological support. Data gathered from 28 participants by an original questionnaire was analyzed in order to determine: if the group had a positive effect; which of Clebsch and Jaekle's four functions of pastoral care was most in effect; what variables (classifying and Pruyser's seven diagnostic) were most related to positive effect; and what program resources were reported as having the most positive effect.
