There were three methods employed to raise the spiritual consciousness and experiential level: i) teaching ii) training and iii) praxis.  Two surveys and a final evaluation helped determine the congregation's experience and the impact of the project.  Results show that the project was well received; positive impact was felt on being a Christ-centered, caring and understanding the triune community.  Negative experience was felt on being a compassionate community. Effectiveness of the program was evaluated by African American male and female pastors. Ratings were grouped and analyzed by gender; differences were not statistically different. Both groups affirmed value in the program's capacity to facilitate family discussions about organ donation and to underscore the need for donation in African American communities. To a lesser extent, evaluators responded favorably to the program's capacity to correct informational barriers. By many statistical reports this is the least likely group to be in worship on Sunday. There seems to be a disconnection with this group when it comes to corporate worship times and other church-related activities, although this group has many indicators that point to spiritual desire. The worship offerings, in particular, seem to be failing when it comes to attracting this age group. The project introduces a discovery model based upon survey, interviews, and observation that attempts to look at two recent developments in worship which seem to be attracting this 18-35 year-old age group. The two different worship styles were functioning at the two churches that were studied in this project. These two services, contemporary and modern multi-sensory, were used to compare and contrast the effectiveness of attracting and producing a level of participation within the targeted age group. The two most important findings were: first, the contemporary worship service was of greater importance in the lives of the surveyed groups than the multi-sensory worship service. Yet the surveyed group from the multi-sensory worship indicated they were much more participative in the life of the church than the contemporary group. Div. degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary from 1975-2000 (inclusive). The project had three main goals: 1) to determine the occupations of women graduates as of March 2002; 2) to determine how many graduates had left, or did not begin, professional ministry; 3) to understand and document the factors surrounding the graduates' decisions to leave or not begin ministry. Results indicated that 32% of subjects were not in active ministry. The American Restoration Movement, and its particular branch known as Churches of Christ (a cappell), has a rich and varied history in New England. Currently there are approximately 104 congregations totaling about 5749 members. Yet, due to the autonomy of these churches, accurate accounting is somewhat inhibited. What do these churches look like? Past research has focused solely on attendance figures and did not address other research possibilities such as demographic, religiosity and attitudinal aspects of the tradition. The thesis-project seeks to answer the question by gleaning data from a particular survey instrument that uses demographic, religiosity and attitudinal options. The thesis begins with an explanation of the genesis of the survey and the methodology used to collect the data. Two chapters, then, are devoted to analyzing demographic, religiosity and attitudinal data. With the assistance of the survey's data, a picture of what New England Churches of Christ look like at the start of this new millennium is developed. Demographic and religiosity data is shared in order to get behind the attendance figures and gain a more complete picture of this movement. Attitudinal data, which is based on certain characteristics, or indicators, of church 'health' is used to assess the vitality of the group. A third chapter, related to the survey, offers some perspective on various opportunities and challenges the tradition will face in the coming years. A final chapter puts flesh on this thesis. It is a presentation and summary of one church's recent strategic attempt, through the use of an instrument called a vision notebook, to assess their current situation and then seek to implement the ten health indicators into their local church in an intentional, healthy, and effective way. The goal of the thesis-project is to paint a picture of the tradition, offer some insights into her current state, and tender a few challenges.
