A study manual was developed as a compendium of ecclesiological research.  Organized under the heads Failure, Foundation, Focus, Form and Function, it comprised 30 theses or statements for discussion with supporting material.  Bible reference sheets were also developed.  The manual was used in a weekend retreat with a small group of church lay leaders. Pre- and post-retreat testing indicated considerable improvement in participants' understanding of the nature and mission of the church. Attitude change was determined through the use of a questionnaire that was administered prior to and following the delivery of four sermons.  A comparison of the scores indicated the attitudes of the congregation did not change.  There was evidence that the attitudes of some members did change.
