Questions were posed to discern if the prayer was meaningful and why (or why not) it was deemed so.  Responses to these questions are studied in light of relevant theological and pastoral care literature.  Entries from a journal written during a time of crisis are reviewed for ways in which prayer might have been voiced to meet spiritual needs. It develops a couples' prayer workshop as an intervention tool to promote marital prayer, and evaluates the results through pre- and post-tests of the experimental and control groups.  The results reveal a slight but definite correlation between conjoint prayer and marital adjustment.  No significant difference is found in a comparison of either the practice of conjoint prayer or for marital adjustment. The research includes an eight-week, fourteen hour seminar/workshop that features the prayer principles from the Lord's Prayer in theory and in practice. A prayer survey given before and after the training measures changes in the prayer practice of the trainees. A complex statistical study involving the chi square was used to determine the accuracy of the thesis.  A testing procedure employing the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and the Spiritual Orientation Profile was administered to 100 lay people and 100 clergy persons and the personalities and prayer lives were examined. Fourteen church members followed a daily devotional plan for six weeks.  Tested before, during, and after the six weeks of daily devotions, the participants reported frequency of perceived hindrance to worship and prayer life in devotion to God.
